Job summary

Glencore is seeking a Database Administrator to support the Data & Automation Team, focusing on the management, optimisation, and security of enterprise SQL Server databases across on-premises and cloud environments.

You will monitor performance, implement backup and disaster recovery, and collaborate with applications and infrastructure teams to improve reliability and compliance. Experience with SAP HANA is a plus.

Qualifications

• Proven experience administering Microsoft SQL Server in a production setting.
• Experience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Knowledge of database security practices and compliance requirements.
• Experience working with cloud or hybrid infrastructure environments; SAP HANA will be highly regarded.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Reporting to the Data & Automation Team Leader, the Database Administrator will play a key role in supporting business operations through the management, optimisation, and security of enterprise database systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer, monitor, and maintain SQL Server databases to ensure optimal performance, availability, and security.
• Manage database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes to safeguard business-critical data.
• Collaborate with applications and infrastructure teams to optimise database design, queries, and system performance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database and infrastructure-related performance issues.
• Implement and maintain database security standards in line with organisational policies and industry best practices.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement including automation, capacity planning, and database platform optimisation across on-premises, private cloud, and Infrastructure/Platform as a Service environment.
• Maintain clear and accurate documentation of database environments, configurations, and operational procedures.

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline (or equivalent industry experience)
