Job summary

School District 27J seeks an educational assistant to support students with moderate disabilities in both special and general education classes. The role includes modifying materials, data collection, and direct instructional support aligned with IEPs.

Responsibilities span supervising students, collaboration with teachers, and ensuring safety during school activities, with a 9-month schedule and benefits eligibility. CPR/First Aid preferred but not required; bilingual skills welcome.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as Behavior Plans, IEPs, staff and student handbooks.
• Ability to collect data, write routine reports and simple correspondences.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from teachers and specialists.
• Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct instruction and/or academic support and supervision for students with disabilities in accordance with their IEPs.
• Modify academic materials and assist with the delivery of instruction.
• Identify and facilitate peer relationships and natural supports.
• Follow through with behavior intervention plans and monitor safety.
• Maintain forms and records as requested by teachers.
• De-escalate students using CPI measures and implement behavior plans.
• Consult with general education teachers on best practices in special education.
• Assist students with special needs including toileting, eating, positioning and communication.
• Communicate observations and progress with teachers and therapists.
• Assist with minor clerical duties and attend trainings and student staffings.
