Job summary

Miss Chief Bar and Eatery in Cairns is seeking a talented sous chef to join our small kitchen team for an immediate start. The role offers 38–40 hours over a 4-day week, with occasional extra hours during peak times.

We cook Asian-inspired tapas with quality ingredients and a focus on memorable dining experiences. Flexibility, teamwork and the ability to work calmly under pressure are essential; permanent residency and fluent English required.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent is required.
• Minimum 2 years experience in a similar role.
• Must be well organised and able to work under pressure.
• Permanent/long term residents only; no 88dayers or sponsorship.
• Fluent English required.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing all kitchen operations on a weekly basis.
• Working closely alongside the other chef & directors with menu ideas.
• Ordering of stock and ensuring stock rotation protocols are followed.

We offer a variety of Asian inspired tapas dishes with a focus on using good quality ingredients and delivering an experience for customers to remember.

The position is based on a 38-40 hour, 4day working week, with the need of possible extra hours during peak trade periods or to cover holidays , sick day's etc.

Award rates paid with staff meals included.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• Friendly, positive and team players
• Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent is required
• A long-term commitment is required for a minimum of 1 year, 2 years preferred
• Must have a minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role
• Must be well organised and be able to work well under pressure
• Ability to work in a fast paced kitchen and be very confident at working solo
• Pro-active attitude and reliability
• Strong food knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques
• South East Asian cuisine experience a bonus
• Permanent/long term residents ONLY

• Must speak fluent English
