Job description

Experienced Sourdough Baker
Come bake with us.

We’re looking for an experienced sourdough baker to join our small, growing team at BAKER of THINGS in Richmond.

We make good things.

Real sourdough. Great cakes. Beautiful sandwiches. Good coffee. And, just as importantly, we’re building a workplace where people enjoy coming to work, look after each other and take pride in what they do.

We’re looking for someone who loves baking and knows their way around sourdough with all its troubleshooting challenges — but also understands that a great bakery is about more than great bread.

We're about good people, good energy, teamwork and having the experience and initiative to solve problems when they arise.

What we’re looking for

You’ll have solid experience baking sourdough commercially and a good understanding of fermentation, dough, shaping, ovens and production.

You’ll be organised, reliable and comfortable taking responsibility for your work. You’ll notice the details, know when something isn’t right and enjoy figuring out how to make it better.

Just as importantly, you’ll be someone who is kind, respectful and positive to work alongside.

We’er building a team of people who communicate well, help each other out and contribute to a workplace where everyone can do their best work.

What you’ll do

You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day bread production — mixing, shaping, baking, prep and keeping the section organised and running well.

You’ll help maintain our standards for quality, food safety and cleanliness, and support the team in understanding our products and processes.

You’ll work closely with our Executive Chef and the wider team, bringing your experience to the day-to-day challenges of a busy bakery.

There will be plenty of opportunity to learn, improve and grow as we grow.

What matters to us

We care about the bread.

We care about the people making it, too.

We believe a good workplace should be supportive, respectful and enjoyable. We want people to finish a shift feeling proud of what they’ve made — and happy about the people they made it with.

We look after each other, communicate openly and believe that hard work and having a good time can absolutely coexist.

What you’ll get
  • A supportive, positive team
  • A workplace where your experience and craft are valued
  • Quality ingredients and equipment
  • Opportunities to learn and develop as the business grows
  • A genuine opportunity to become part of something from the early stages
  • Free coffee. Always.
  • Half-price retail coffee from MAKER Coffee

If you’re an experienced sourdough baker who cares about making great bread and being part of a great team, we’d love to hear from you.
