Job summary

Optus, part of Singapore Telecommunications, invites a seasoned Solution Architect to join the Telco IP & PE team in Macquarie Park, Sydney. You will shape architecture and design of Optus’s IP network across mobile core systems, voice core, network management and other platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field.

We’re looking for a Solution Architect to join our Telco IP & PE team in Macquarie Park, Sydney. In this role, you’ll shape the architecture and design of Optus’s IP network across mobile core systems, voice core, network management and broader telecommunications platforms.

As a senior technical leader within the Mobile IP team, you’ll develop robust, scalable and secure connectivity solutions from strategy and roadmap development through to detailed design, documentation and implementation. You’ll work closely with internal customers, project teams, vendors and wider IP teams to turn complex requirements into practical network outcomes that support Optus services and business units.

What You’ll Do

• Architect and design IP network solutions for mobile core, voice core, network management and other telecommunications platforms and services.
• Develop routing and switching technology roadmaps, network plans and solution strategies that support scalable, secure and reliable IP connectivity.
• Lead the design and onboarding of new IP network devices and topologies, leveraging automation and intent-based networking tools.
• Act as a subject matter expert for routing and switching, providing technical direction, design feedback and support during solution reviews and critical operational issues.
• Partner with internal customers, project teams, vendors and wider IP teams to gather requirements, assess feasibility and impact, resolve design issues and document proposed solutions.
• Assess upcoming projects, network plans and budgets, manage technical risks and provide clear recommendations during escalations and delivery milestones.

What makes you perfect for the role?

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, a Master’s degree or certified network professional qualification such as CCNP or CCIE are highly regarded.
• Years’ experience in IP network engineering, including at least five years in a leadership role and significant experience conceiving and delivering complex engineering solutions and large projects.
• Deep knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, SR-MPLS, SR-TE, RSVP-TE, LDP, SRv6, EVPN, IPVPN, L2VPN, QoS and traffic engineering.
• Strong experience with end-to-end design and lifecycle management of BNG, CGNAT, Telco Cloud Connect edge routers, data-centre fabrics and firewalls, across on-premises and hybrid cloud environments.
• Broad telecommunications architecture knowledge across MOCN and 5G private networks, VoLTE, VoWiFi, VoNR, IMS, 3G, 4G, RAN technologies and network security, together with hands‑on experience using Ansible, Netconf/YANG or equivalent automation frameworks.
• A strategic, customer‑focused and collaborative approach, with strong executive communication, coaching, mentoring, vendor management, commercial awareness, problem‑solving and influencing skills, and the ability to work autonomously under pressure.
