Job summary

Software Engineer — Satellite Imagery & Geospatial Systems

We're looking for a Software Engineer to design, develop, test, and maintain the software systems underpinning our geospatial and Earth Observation services. You'll translate complex spatial data and analytical requirements into reliable, scalable software — working closely with our geospatial specialists on the ingestion, processing, validation, and output of large satellite imagery datasets.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who can work independently, thinks critically about system design, and has genuine, demonstrable experience with satellite/remote sensing imagery — not just general software development.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain software supporting geospatial data processing and analytics workflows, including ingestion, processing, validation, and output of large raster/vector datasets
• Apply structured problem-solving to technical challenges across the imagery processing pipeline
• Contribute to solution architecture, technical design, and documentation
• Test, debug, and resolve defects and performance issues, including unit and integration testing
• Develop and maintain APIs for data transfer between internal tools and external applications
• Build workflows using tools such as FME to reduce manual handling of spatial data
• Investigate and improve internal systems and tools, including CRM and hardware infrastructure issues, liaising with our Managed Service Provider where required
• Use AI-assisted development tools effectively, while applying professional judgement to validate correctness, security, and quality of AI-generated outputs
• Communicate technical concepts, limitations, and trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

About You

• Demonstrated professional experience working with satellite imagery, remote sensing data, or Earth Observation (EO) products — this is a core requirement, not a nice-to-have
• Practical experience with raster and vector spatial data, coordinate reference systems, and geospatial analysis workflows
• 2+ years' experience with strong software engineering skills and a track record of shipping production-quality code
• Experience processing, validating, and deriving products from large, complex spatial datasets
• Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking and structured problem-solving to technical challenges
• Strong commitment to testing, quality assurance, and attention to detail
• Ability to work effectively and manage priorities with limited supervision
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including explaining technical trade-offs to non-technical audiences
• Hands-on experience using Claude Code (or a comparable AI coding agent) as part of a professional development workflow
• Desirable: Experience with FME or similar spatial ETL/workflow tools
