Job summary

Nuix in Sydney is seeking a Software Engineer to own end-to-end user stories, write well-tested code and actively participate in backlog grooming, CI/CD and customer-facing discussions. You will contribute to secure coding practices and expand your understanding of our AI-enabled document-intelligence platform.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Role Overview

As a Software Engineer you take ownership of user stories end-to-end, write well-tested and well-styled code, and are increasingly active in the wider engineering conversation — backlog grooming, CI/CD, and customer-facing context.

Location

This position will be based in our Sydney office. The candidate is required to attend the office a minimum of 3 days per week but may voluntarily elect to work either remotely or from the Sydney office for the remaining 2 days of the week.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver user stories end-to-end with high quality and minimal rework.
• Ensure code styling and design patterns are followed; include meaningful unit tests, with all code covered by the appropriate level of testing.
• Apply basic security concepts in the code you write and follow secure-coding practices.
• Investigate and fix build/test issues in the CI/CD pipeline.
• Actively participate in backlog grooming and planning, providing reasonable estimates.
• Share knowledge with the team and contribute to the wiki; support onboarding of newer team members.
• Grow your understanding of the broader system, including our model-backed and AI components.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Typically 3+ years' related software engineering experience.
• Working proficiency in one or more of Java, Python or React/TypeScript, with a willingness to become full-stack.
• Solid grasp of testing practices, version control and CI/CD fundamentals.
• Basic understanding of secure coding concepts.
• Interest in AI/ML, NLP or document-intelligence domains is a plus.
• Communicates clearly, takes feedback well, and shows a proactive, collaborative mindset.
