Job description

We are Northrop Grumman Australia (NGA).

Our 800 strong team is leveraging unparalleled global resources to deliver sovereign Defence capability aligned to the Government’s priorities across Aeronautics, Mission Critical Systems, Space and Guided Weapons. As we build our business and our capabilities, we are also developing a reputation as a great place to work. Help us define what is possible for our nation and for your career.

The Role:

This role will suit a software engineer who likes understanding how things work beyond the code. If you're curious and want exposure to the whole solution, we'll give you that opportunity.

Working within the Secure Network Communications Program, you'll help develop and evolve secure communications products suite while building knowledge across software, Linux, networking and system-level technologies. The work ranges from implementing new capabilities and modernising existing ones through to troubleshooting complex technical challenges across the broader solution.

You'll be part of a team that values curiosity, practical problem-solving and knowledge sharing. There is plenty of support from experienced engineers, but you'll also be trusted to work independently and take ownership of your work.

Key Responsibilities

Day to day, you'll work with experienced engineers to develop, improve and support a complex secure communications solution.

  • Design, develop, integrate, test and document software capabilities.
  • Contribute to product development and improvements, modernisation activities and new feature development.
  • Work across multiple layers of the solution to improve performance, reliability and capability
  • Partner with systems, test and support teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Participate in technical reviews, design discussions and code reviews.
  • Share knowledge and support the development of less experienced engineers.
About You

You'll bring a software engineering background and enjoy solving technical problems that don't always have an obvious answer.

We're interested in people who have experience with some of the following:

  • Linux environments and software development.
  • Software Configuration Management, JIRA and Agile delivery environments.
  • Networked, distributed and/or secure systems.
  • Working through unfamiliar technical challenges and learning new technologies.

Experience with embedded systems, firmware development, Linux kernel technologies or secure communications would be valued, but isn't essential.

Most importantly, you'll be curious, pragmatic and comfortable stepping outside your immediate area of expertise when needed.

  • Additional purchased annual leave – 2 weeks
