Job summary

Cleared is seeking a Mid-Level Software Engineer for a Defence industry role in Adelaide, Australia. This permanent, full-time position requires an NV1 security clearance and focuses on designing, developing and maintaining software components using C# as part of a broader distributed systems effort.

You will collaborate with software engineers across the team, participate in the full SDLC, and contribute to automated testing, quality and continuous improvement in an Agile environment.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, integrate and maintain software components using C#.
• Contribute to software architecture and the development of microservices and distributed systems.
• Collaborate with software engineers and other technical specialists to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, code reviews, testing and integration.
• Develop automated tests and contribute to software quality, reliability and maintainability.
• Investigate and resolve technical issues through debugging and problem-solving.
• Contribute to technical discussions, team planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Work within an Agile engineering environment, collaborating with the wider team to deliver project outcomes.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Approximately three or more years of professional software development experience, with flexibility for candidates demonstrating strong technical capability.
• Demonstrated experience developing software using C#.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and software engineering principles.
• Experience with Git and collaborative development practices.
• Understanding of software testing, integration and the software development lifecycle.
• Strong analytical, debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a technical team.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with microservices or distributed software architectures.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes or containerised applications.
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• Experience working with Linux environments and Bash scripting.
• Familiarity with messaging technologies such as Kafka, MQTT or DDS.
• Experience with Agile methodologies, including Scrum or SAFe.
• Previous experience in Defence, aerospace or other complex engineering environments.
