Job summary

Kforce Inc. in Redmond, WA is seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer IV to design, build, and operate complex data pipelines and the infrastructure that supports them.

You will work across teams to ensure reliable, scalable, and high-performance systems processing manufacturing telemetry and on-orbit data, with a strong emphasis on security and Cloud best practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
• 10+ years of professional software development experience.
• 5+ years building and operating production data pipelines (batch and streaming).
• Proficient in Python and Java; production code in both.
• Experience with AWS, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, data modeling, and SQL.
• Experience with Spark or Flink; ETL/ELT processes.
• Familiarity with IAM and least-privilege access.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain the AWS infrastructure behind those pipelines, deployed as code.
• Build and optimize high-performance databases to handle massive volumes of telemetry and operational data.

• Handle day-to-day data operations: backfills, incoming data checks, and publishing the datasets other teams rely on.
• Monitor pipeline health and data quality, and troubleshoot production issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, network architects, and scientists.
• Ensure system reliability, scalability, and performance in a mission-critical environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field
• 10+ years of professional software development experience in production environments
• 5+ years of hands-on experience building and operating production data pipelines, both batch and streaming
• Must be fluent in both Python and Java, with production code written in each
• Strong understanding of software design patterns, data structures, and algorithms
• Must have experience with version control systems and CI/CD pipelines
• Knowledge of distributed systems and cloud computing platforms
• Understanding of IAM and least-privilege access patterns
• Experience with Docker
• Experience designing ETL/ELT processes, including incremental loads, backfills, and late or out-of-order data
• Experience with distributed batch and stream processing frameworks, such as Apache Spark or Apache Flink
• Experience running pipelines in production: monitoring and alarming, data quality checks, and recovering from failed runs
• Enough engineering judgment to notice when telemetry looks wrong rather than passing it through
• Hands‑on experience with AWS storage, compute, and data processing services
• Experience defining and deploying cloud infrastructure as code
• Proficiency with SQL at depth. Familiarity with NoSQL databases is useful
• Experience with database performance optimization, indexing strategies, and query tuning on large datasets
• Knowledge of data modeling, schema design, and database migration strategies
• Experience with data warehousing concepts, such as partitioning and columnar storage

Preferred

• Experience with columnar analytical databases
• Experience with high-volume time-series or telemetry data
• Experience with TypeScript and React
• Knowledge of network protocols and telecommunications systems

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
