Job summary

St Vincent's Hospital Sydney, part of NSW Health, is seeking a dedicated Social Worker for the Alcohol and Drug Service in Darlinghurst. This max term, full-time role offers Monday–Friday shifts and a salary range of AU$79,419–AU$113,301 plus super and salary packaging.

You will deliver psychosocial assessments, counselling and group programs, work within a multidisciplinary team, and support clients with complex social needs in a busy outpatient setting.

Qualifications

• Degree in Social Work and eligible for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
• Experience working in alcohol and other drug and/or mental health services is desirable.
• Knowledge of bio-psychosocial assessment, counselling, therapy interventions, case management, advocacy and discharge planning.
• Ability to work autonomously with minimal direct supervision.
• Knowledge of legislative requirements for domestic violence, child protection, guardianship and victims of crime.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams in a high demand environment with competing priorities; strong liaison, negotiation and time management.

Responsibilities

• Deliver specialist psychosocial assessments, counselling, brief interventions and health education for people who use stimulants, using evidence-informed, trauma-informed and harm minimisation approaches.
• Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments, intake and triage, and develop individualised care plans.
• Provide social work interventions including therapeutic support, care coordination, advocacy, referral management and support addressing social determinants of health.
• Develop and facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational group programs, while contributing to community education and service improvement initiatives.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to provide coordinated care and contribute to best-practice service delivery.
• Participate in the Alcohol and Drug Service Violence and Neglect Response roster Monday to Friday during business hours with no on-call requirement.
