Job summary

North Richmond Community Health (NRCH) is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join our Counselling and Casework team in a varied, community-based role serving adults, families and children. The position focuses on brief wellbeing support, early intervention and practical assistance, including managing a small caseload and school-based counselling.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced and thoughtful Social Worker to join our small, multidisciplinary Counselling and Casework team within Allied Health.

This is a varied community-based role providing brief wellbeing support and emotional assistance to adults, families and children experiencing stress, adjustment challenges and other difficulties in their lives.

You’ll provide short-term emotional and practical support, with a focus on early intervention, stabilisation and helping people connect with the right ongoing services. The role also includes supporting a small caseload of clients experiencing family violence and providing therapeutic counselling to children, including within school settings.

In this role, you will:

• Provide brief, structured support using solution-focused, strengths-based and trauma-informed approaches

• Conduct family violence risk assessments and safety planning in line with MARAM and relevant Victorian legislation

• Provide specialist family violence counselling and support

• Deliver individual therapeutic counselling to children, including within school settings

• Support clients to navigate practical challenges including housing, Centrelink, health and legal systems

• Connect clients with specialist services and community supports through referral and advocacy

• Work collaboratively with colleagues, community organisations and other services to provide coordinated and responsive care

The role offers variety in how and where you work, with services delivered across office, community, school and telehealth settings.

About you

You are a qualified Social Worker who genuinely enjoys working alongside people and can build trust with clients from a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences.

You’ll be comfortable balancing therapeutic support with practical casework and advocacy, and bring a culturally responsive, trauma-informed and considered approach to your practice.

You will bring:

• Tertiary qualifications in Social Work and membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers

• Experience in assessment, case planning, advocacy and casework

• An understanding of complex client needs, including family violence, mental health and the experiences of newly arrived and emerging communities

• Knowledge of MARAM and relevant legislation

• Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to develop effective networks with other services and agencies

• The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a small multidisciplinary team

Experience working with women affected by family violence and/or delivering therapeutic counselling or support to children will be highly regarded. A community language will also be highly regarded.
