Job summary

Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) is seeking a talented Social Worker to join the Social Work department on a 0.5 EFT, fixed term role (until October 2027). You will provide psychosocial assessments and interventions for families and children requiring care at RCH within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities include supporting families through new diagnoses, chronic illness, trauma, bereavement, and social issues; contributing to discharge planning and community referrals; and engaging in

  • Eligibility for membership of AASW and meet AASW CPE accreditation standards.

About the Role

We are looking for a talented Social Worker to join the Social Work department on a Part Time (0.5 EFT) Fixed Term (until October 2027) basis. As a core member of the multidisciplinary team you will be responsible for providing psychosocial assessments and interventions for families and children requiring care at the Royal Children’s Hospital. This includes providing services to families experiencing a new diagnosis, chronic illness, trauma, family violence, bereavement, social issues impacting on the child’s wellbeing and family functioning, parenting difficulties, psychological health issues, child behavioural issues and a broad range of social support issues.

What you'll achieve:

Provide high quality clinical care to children and families presenting to RCH with a broad range of complex medical and psychosocial needs

Contributeto timely decision making, transition or discharge planning and referral to community providers

Support and counselling for vulnerable children and families in crisis situations including trauma, family violence, grief and loss

Engage in quality improvement to enhance existing Social Work services to patients and families

Classification for this position will range from SC21 - SC24 Grade 2 Year 1 to Year 4 (FTE base salary $90,235 to $103,724 per annum, pro rata, plus superannuation).

Your skills and experience

Social Work Degree from an accredited University/Course

Eligibility for membership of AASW and meet AASW CPE accreditation standards

Clinical experience recognised in related field of practice

Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team

About the Department:

The RCH Social Work Department is a growing team with over 65 employees and is one of the largest Allied Health teams at RCH. Social workers work in collaboration with Medical, Nursing and Allied Health staff across the hospital as well as provide community liaison to ensure delivery of great psychosocial care for patients and families.

Valid Working with Children Check

Compliance with RCHs “Staff Immunisation - Prevention of Vaccine Preventable Diseases” procedure

It is a requirement of your employment that you be vaccinated against Influenza annually for Category A and B roles, in compliance with any public health orders in place at the relevant time, unless you have a medical exception in line with those public health orders, which has been accepted by The Royal Children’s Hospital. Applicants will be required to provide their Australian Government Immunisation History Statement, it is a requirement of the RCH to collect, record and hold vaccination information.
