Job summary

Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC) is seeking a highly organized Social Media Community Coordinator in Sydney to grow and manage our online communities. You will craft social-first content, respond to enquiries, and turn audiences into advocates for Australian wildlife through engaging storytelling across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube.

You will work closely with field staff, creators and communications colleagues to simplify conservation stories for diverse audiences,

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated capability in managing online communities, including moderation and audience engagement.
  • Ability to create engaging social media content, including written, visual and short-form video content.
  • Proficiency in adapting content for different social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube.
  • Working knowledge of key content creation tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva.
  • Familiarity with social media publishing and monitoring tools such as Meltwater Engage and Meta Business Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders and deliver content within deadlines.
  • Strong written communication, editing, and proofreading skills.

About the Role

AWC is seeking a highly organised, community-minded and creative Social Media Community Coordinator to help build one of Australia's most engaged conservation communities. This role is responsible for managing and growing AWC's online audiences across our social media channels—fostering meaningful conversations, responding to enquiries, identifying emerging opportunities, and helping turn new audiences into advocates for Australian wildlife.

Alongside community management, you'll plan and produce engaging social-first content that keeps our channels active, supports organisational campaigns, and brings Australia's threatened species and conservation work to life. Working closely with AWC field staff, creators, partners and Communications team colleagues, you'll help transform complex conservation stories into compelling content that resonates with audiences across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube. The successful candidate will combine excellent community management instincts with strong content creation skills, a deep understanding of evolving social platforms and audience behaviour, and the confidence to engage with supporters, creators and influencers in ways that strengthen AWC's reach and reputation. This role contributes to AWC’s mission by delivering conservation outcomes while supporting a safe, respectful and inclusive working environment where people are treated with dignity and fairness

Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related discipline; or equivalent demonstrated experience.
Licenses, Certificates and/or Training
  • Legal right to work in Australia.
Experience
  • Demonstrated capability in managing online communities, including moderation, audience engagement and responding appropriately to community enquiries and conversations.
  • Demonstrated ability to create engaging social media content, including written, visual and short-form video content.
  • Proficiency in adapting content for different social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube.
  • Working proficiency in relevant content creation and editing tools, such as Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva.
  • Familiarity with social media publishing, moderation or community management tools, such as Meltwater Engage and Meta Business Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders, source accurate information and deliver content within agreed deadlines.
  • Sound written communication, editing and proofreading skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to recognise sensitive or reputational issues and escalates them appropriately.
  • Previous exposure to conservation, environmental, scientific, tourism or other purpose-driven organisations.
  • Confidence interviewing scientists, technical specialists, field-based employees or other subject matter experts.
  • Exposure to communications support during sensitive, high-profile or emerging issues.
  • Familiarity with project management platforms such as Monday.com.
