Job summary

Mackay Regional Council is seeking skilled Plant Operators to join the Mirani Depot. You will support civil road, drainage and infrastructure works with plant operation, truck driving and labouring duties under limited supervision.

Reporting to a Supervisor, you will contribute to safety, quality and customer service while working in a high-performing team. A White Card, appropriate licences and a Certificate of Competency are required or attainable within 12 months.

Qualifications

• White Card is required.
• C Class Open Driver’s Licence (QLD) or interstate equivalent, transferable within 3 months.
• Heavy Rigid (HR) Truck Licence or interstate equivalent, transferable within 3 months.
• Certificate of Competency to operate road construction plant (e.g., skid steer, roller, loader, backhoe).
• Traffic Management Implementation (TMI) qualification or ability to obtain within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Operate ride-on equipment and light to medium plant safely and competently.
• Operate heavy rigid trucks (≥22.5t GVM) and trailer combinations (up to 42.5t GCM).
• Undertake earthworks, drainage, concreting, pipelaying, bitumen, and vegetation works.
• Perform hands-on labouring tasks for civil infrastructure projects.
• Complete daily plant pre-start checks and assist with maintenance.
• Provide traffic management and assist with safe worksite set-ups.
• Maintain records and documentation.
• Deliver high-quality service to internal and external customers.
• Participate in training and skill development.
• Adhere to WH&S and environmental legislation and best-practice standards.
