Job summary

QinetiQ, a global technology and engineering company, invites applications for a Site Supervisor in the MakerSpace Darwin team. You will oversee daily operations, safety, and program delivery, coordinating with the Operations Manager and stakeholders to enable productive prototyping and training across the site.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated technical experience across electronics, IT, electrical, fitting and machining or mechanical trades.
• Experience designing or prototyping unique solutions or low-rate production runs.
• Familiarity with laser CNC, 3D printing, VR/AR development or smart prototyping.
• Ability to manage fabrication equipment and related software.
• Knowledge to source off-the-shelf software and advise on deployment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day MakerSpace site operations per policy and directorate from MakerSpace Program or Ops Manager.
• Sign-in, induction and authorization of all users per policy.
• Maintain safety and governance for MakerSpace users.
• Forecast consumables and manage procurement guidance.
• Stocktake, store and manage procured materials.
• Maintain site equipment and schedule preventive maintenance.
• Liaise with Commonwealth units to promote MakerSpace capability.
• Deliver user training and MakerSpace programs, including remote sites when required.

We are now accepting applications for a Site Supervisor to join our MakerSpace team in Darwin.

The MakerSpace Site Supervisor will competently perform a wide variety of structured tasks with limited scope and complexity by applying principles and concepts to a range of work assignments within the MakerSpace environment.

The Opportunity

As a Site Supervisor, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• The day-to-day operation of the MakerSpace site in accordance with current policy, procedure or direction from the MakerSpace Program or Operations Manager, including administration and reporting tasks.
• Sign-in, induction and authorisation of all users in accordance with current policies and procedures.
• Maintaining the safety and management of MakerSpace users.
• Forecasting consumables in accordance with governance requirements and the Procurement Manager’s guidance.
• The collection, stocktake and storage of procured materials.
• Managing all preventative and required maintenance of site equipment.
• Liaising with local Commonwealth units to promote MakerSpace capability.
• The delivery of formal and informal user training.
• Delivery of MakerSpace programs and course content, supporting delivery at remote sites as required.

About You

To be successful in the position of Site Supervisor, you will need to bring:

• Demonstrated technical experience in electronics, IT, electrical, fitting and machining or mechanical trades (or similar).
• Experience working on design and prototyping unique solutions or low-rate production runs.
• Experience with any of the following: Laser CNC, 3D printing, VR/AR development, software-programmable kits, smart applications and general prototyping.
• Demonstrated ability to manage the operation of fabrication machines and associated software.
• Ability to research and select off-the-shelf software solutions to make timely project recommendations regarding necessity, purchasing and deployment.
• Well-developed computing skills, including an intermediate level of MS Office and CAD experience.
• An ability to effectively track multiple simultaneous projects and ensure their progression in an efficient and timely manner.
• An ability to coach and mentor others to achieve project requirements.

Recent graduates from relevant STEM disciplines such as engineering, industrial design or similar fields are welcome to apply.

Security Clearance Requirements

Due to the nature of the role, applicants must hold an Australian Defence security clearance (Baseline minimum) or have the ability to obtain one.
