Job summary

Vulcan, Australasia’s leading metals distributor and processor, seeks a senior leader to head Sales and Operations in Melbourne. You will develop a 10-person team, drive performance against KPIs, manage P&L and grow our customer base through strong, face-to-face engagement.

You will lead sales and operations planning, ensure safety, and foster a professional but relaxed culture with opportunities for personal and professional development.

Qualifications

• Experience leading teams, preferably in industrial or distribution sectors.
• Proven ability to drive performance against KPIs and objectives.
• Strong customer relationship management and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a 10-person team across Sales and Operations.
• Be visible and approachable, modelling Vulcan's culture and values.
• Communicate roles, duties, objectives and performance expectations.
• Lead sales and operations planning and execution.
• Grow the customer base through face-to-face engagement.
• Meet targets for profitable pricing, sales and strategic objectives.
• Monitor competitors’ sales strategies and campaigns.
• Promote high levels of customer service to Vulcan accounts.
• Oversee day-to-day operational functions including purchasing and stock control.
• Ensure warehouse efficiency and accurate order picking.
• Maintain a healthy, safe work site compliant with regulations.

What you will be responsible for:

• Lead and develop a team of 10 across Sales and Operations, aligned with Vulcan's culture and values
• Be visible and approachable, demonstrating leadership and interacting with team members
• Ensure individual roles, duties, responsibilities, objectives and performance against objectives are clearly communicated
• Leads sales and operational planning and implementation
• To develop, maintain and grow our customer base with significant face to face customer interactions
• Meeting assigned targets for profitable pricing sales and strategic objectives
• Monitor and understand competitors’ sales and strategies, and campaigns
• Provide and promote a high level of customer service to all Vulcan accounts
• Responsible for all day-to-day operational functions
• Responsible for purchasing and stock control / inventory system
• Ensure the warehouse is efficient
• Orders picked accurately, safely & quickly
• Ensure the Vulcan site is a healthy and safe work site and complies with all relevant health and safety regulations.

Requirements:

• Experience in a leadership role, ideally within the industrial sector.
• Previous experience with full P&L management advantageous
• Driving a high-performance culture of continuous improvement
• Proven ability to manage and grow teams, while exceeding key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Strong customer service, communication, and relationship management skills.
