Job summary

GitLab is seeking an Intermediate Security Engineer for its Security Incident Response Team (SIRT). This remote role in Australia focuses on detecting and responding to security incidents, leveraging automation and runbooks.

You’ll work on security tooling, build defenses, and help sustain GitLab’s security posture across platforms. You’ll develop expertise in monitoring threats, coordinating across teams, and growing incident response skills within our established security framework.

Qualifications

• Ability to learn and lead incident response processes independently.
• Experience with SIEM and security logging tools.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS and/or GCP).
• Python programming skills or willingness to learn.
• A passion for thorough security documentation.
• Proactive approach to identifying threats and investigating incidents.

Responsibilities

• Lead security incident response in 24/7 rotation from detection through containment and recovery.
• Create and maintain incident response documentation, runbooks, and standard procedures.
• Conduct post-incident RCA and lessons learned reviews to strengthen response programs.
• Design and implement automated security processes to improve efficiency.
• Drive continuous security improvements by identifying gaps and expanding detection capabilities.
• Collaborate across GitLab teams to deliver new security capabilities and projects.
