Job summary

CAE is seeking a Simulator Technician at HMAS Albatross in Nowra to perform preventative and corrective maintenance on training devices, ensuring maximum simulator availability for MH-60R.

You will work under the Maintenance Manager, adhere to CASA/OEM standards, and mentor junior technicians while supporting hardware and software upgrades in a fast-paced, safety-conscious environment. This on-site role involves a rotating 3-shift pattern and Defence clearance eligibility.

Qualifications

  • Trade skills in electrical or electronics preferred.
  • Ability to learn CAE systems and IT concepts quickly.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • ATV or ATA qualifications highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting, fault isolation, and corrective maintenance on flight simulators and associated systems.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance to maximise simulator availability.
  • Perform visual alignments, calibration, and system performance checks.
  • Lead and coordinate technical activities during shifts with the team.

The Simulator Technician is responsible to the Maintenance Manager to perform all preventative and corrective maintenance on training devices under support in a safe and effective manner, ensuring maximum successful training events can be achieved by the end user for the MH-60R.

Role Overview
  • Carry out all maintenance tasks as required and directed by the Maintenance Manager
  • Ensure all maintenance tasks meet internal and external compliance requirements
  • As a Technician, you will get to work on world‑leading flight simulator technology
  • Work to CAE's Environment, Health and Safety standards
Our Ideal Candidate Has
  • Technical and/or mechanical trade skills. Electrician and/or Electronics Technician
  • IT professional and/or sound IT knowledge and ability to learn systems quickly
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Air Technical Avionics (ATV) or Air Technical Airframes (ATA) qualifications and experience are highly desired.
Key Responsibilities Will Include
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting, fault isolation, and corrective maintenance on flight simulators and associated systems.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance activities to ensure maximum simulator availability and reliability.
  • Perform visual alignments, calibration activities, and system performance checks.
  • Execute, analyse, and evaluate Qualification Test Guide (QTG) and Approval Test Guide (ATG) procedures.
  • Lead and coordinate technical activities during shifts in collaboration with the Group Leader, Maintenance Planner, and Technical Management team.
  • Provide technical mentoring, coaching, and on-the-job training to junior technicians.
  • Support engineering projects involving hardware modifications, software updates, and simulator upgrades.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records using CAE's maintenance management system.
  • Ensure compliance with CASA, OEM, customer, and CAE quality and safety requirements.
  • Assist with logistics activities including parts management, repair tracking, inventory control, and vendor coordination.
  • Support customer operations and contribute to the resolution of technical issues affecting training delivery.
  • Make technical and operational decisions during periods where management is not present to ensure continuity of simulator operations.
