Job summary

TAFE Queensland is seeking a Simulator Operator to provide simulation training for mainstream Maritime courses and contracts, using the Kongsberg ship simulator and related systems at GBRIMC Cairns. The role involves maintaining the facility, creating scenarios, and collaborating with educators to deliver high-quality maritime training.

Based at Great Barrier Reef International Marine College—Cairns with potential work at other campuses, the position reports to the Operations Manager, Maritime

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent.
• Possession of maritime qualifications, preferably Deck or Watch keeping.
• Experience or training in a simulator or virtual environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and operate a Kongsberg Ship Simulator and related software/hardware.
• Undertake simulator tasks across delivery including pre-starts, loading, configuring bridges, and troubleshooting.
• Create simulator scenarios/exercises in collaboration with educators.
• Contribute to improving GBRIMC as a centre of excellence in marine simulation training.
• Follow policies relating to maritime activities of the Kongsberg ship simulator.
• Liaise with educators, students, clients and technical support.
• Database modification and maintenance plus admin/records tasks.
• Maintain knowledge of STCW Regulations and related maritime legislation.
• Undertake R&D on business functions.
• Ensure day-to-day activities align with business operations.

As a Simulator Operator, you will:

• Provide simulation training services for mainstream accredited Maritime courses, commercial contracts, as well as specialist non-accredited programs.
• Maintain and improve the simulation facility and its associated systems.

This position reports to the Operations Manager, Maritime.

This is a Permanent,Full-Timeopportunity

The position will be based primarily at Great Barrier Reef International Marine College - Cairns, however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and operate a Kongsberg Ship Simulator and associated software and hardware.
• Undertake operational simulator tasks across all mainstream and contract accredited and non-accredited delivery. This includes but is not limited to system pre-starts, loading and managing exercises, configuring the simulator bridges for delivery, shutting down and troubleshooting.
• Create simulator scenarios/exercises for students in consultation and collaboration with educators.
• Contribute to improvement in business processes and practices to establish and maintain GBRIMC as a centre of excellence in marine simulation training.
• Implement and follow policies and procedures relating to the maritime activities of the Kongsberg ship simulator.
• Liaise and consult with internal and external stakeholders including educators, students, clients and technical support personnel.
• Database modification and maintenance, along with associated administration and record-keeping tasks.
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the statutory requirements of the Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers 1978 (STCW) Regulations and other relevant legislation, current trends and product developments within the maritime industry.
• Undertake research and development on matters relating to business functions.
• Ensure day to day activities align with business operations.

Highly Desirable Requirements

• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent.
