Job summary

Egis Group in Adelaide is seeking a Signalling Design Engineer to join our Railways and Systems team. You will produce signal designs, interpret standards, and potentially lead designers on projects across Australia and New Zealand.

Ideally you bring 5+ years in railway signalling, engineering qualifications, and accreditation with Engineers Australia. The role supports bid work and offers flexibility with full-time, part-time, or job-share arrangements.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years' experience in railway signalling
  • Knowledge of Australian railway standards and guidelines
  • Ability to interpret signalling principles and design documentation
  • Experience in leading designers for minor to medium sized projects
  • Experience with testing and commissioning signalling systems

Responsibilities

  • Design high-level signalling documentation (requirements, tables, scope, charts, arrangements, power, bonding, architecture, cable plans)
  • Design infrastructure assets (Trackside, SCADA/telemetry, train detection, level crossings)
  • Check documentation and assets as required
  • Lead a team of designers for projects
  • Test and commission signalling systems and related support systems
  • Collaborate on bids/tenders and provide high-quality documentation

About the Role

Egis is looking for a Signalling Design Engineer to join our Railways and Systems team in Adelaide. This is an exciting time to join us as we are growing due to recent multiple significant project wins throughout Australia and New Zealand.

As a Signalling Design Engineer at Egis, you will be responsible for producing signal designs and final checking, by interpreting signalling principles, standards and functional design documentation. This role may also support independent design review functions and lead designers for minor to medium sized projects.

In this role, you will:

  • Design of high-level signalling documentation including User / technical requirements, Control table, Scope of works, Aspect sequence charts, Signalling arrangements, Power calculations, Bonding plans, System architecture, Cable plans and I/O allocations
  • Design of infrastructure assets such as Trackside signalling infrastructure, SCADA/telemetry systems, Train detection systems, Level crossings, Traction (electrical current) return arrangements and Vital / non-vital interlocking systems
  • Checking of high-level signalling documentation and infrastructure assets when required
  • Lead a team of designers for minor to medium sized projects
  • Test and commission signalling systems and maintaining signalling and associated supporting systems
  • Collaborate and participate in bids/tenders, producing high-quality advice and documentation
What do we need from you

Ideally, you will have demonstrated 5+ years' experience in railway signalling with specialist knowledge of conventional signal design.

In addition, you will also have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics or similar)
  • Accreditation from Engineers Australia
  • Membership with IRSE highly desired
  • Competency from a Rail Transport Operator - desired are competencies with ARTC and QR
  • Demonstrated experience in railway signalling with expertise in signal design
  • Knowledge of Australian railway standards and guidelines and ability to adhere to industry best practices
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with national signalling team and clients.
