Job summary

Byrnes Quality Meats is seeking a Shop Assistant to help with daily retail operations in Cairns. You will handle the register, assist customers, and ensure the shop floor is clean, well-organised, and stocked.

The role includes preparing hot foods for sale, labeling products, and maintaining hygiene and temperature controls. Ideal candidates have prior retail or customer service experience, strong communication, and the ability to multitask in a busy environment.

• Previous retail or customer service experience.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

• Meticulous attention to stock, pricing, and labeling.
• Basic numeracy for cash handling and POS operation.

Responsibilities

• Operate the cash register and process transactions accurately.
• Handle cash and maintain till balances.
• Keep sales records and manage returns.
• Provide exceptional customer service and address inquiries.
• Prepare hot food in Bain Marie and ensure food safety.
• Maintain proper food storage temperatures and hygiene.
• Weigh, label, and display meats with accurate pricing and info.
• Stack shelves and rotate stock using FIFO to ensure freshness.
• Receive deliveries and verify stock accuracy and storage.
