Job summary

Transdev Australasia is seeking a Ship Repair Assistant at the Balmain Shipyard in Sydney. You will join a team supporting the trade staff with vessel maintenance, docking, and general yard upkeep to ensure safe and timely completion of works.

The role requires hands-on experience with forklift operations, height/space safety, and ideally exposure to marine vessels. Applicants should be proactive and safety-conscious; a positive team culture is emphasized.

Qualifications

• Forklift operation and safety experience.
• Ability to work at height and in confined spaces.
• Experience with elevating work platforms is desirable.
• Experience working with marine vessels is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist trade staff with general maintenance of vessels at Balmain Shipyard.
• Docking and maintenance of vessels, keeping the yard clean and safe.
• Respond to breakdown maintenance and support timely completion of works.

What you’ll do

We have an exciting opportunity for a Ship Repair Assistant located in our Balmain Shipyard . Reporting to the Production Managers, you will work as part of a team in assisting our trade staff on the general maintenance of our vessels. Your duties will include docking and maintenance of vessels, general yard clean up, interaction with other staff and contractors as well as responding to breakdown maintenance as required. This role will work to support the team in ensuring the works are completed safely and within expected time constraints.

What you bring

We are looking for a proactive and energetic person whose worked in a similar environment. Someone with exposure or qualifications in forklift, working at height, working in confined space, elevator work platform and ideally experienced working with marine vessels.

Most importantly we are looking for someone who is eager to learn from their peers and willing to achieve the team’s common goal of providing a safe and enjoyable journey on our vessels.
