Job summary

Youth Support and Advocacy Service (YSAS) in Cairns, Queensland, is recruiting for a Shift Senior to lead a residential youth unit. Based in Cairns with occasional travel, the role ensures delivery of evidence-based care and oversees daily operations, supervision, and professional development of youth workers and support staff.

The successful candidate will lead service delivery outside business hours, support client access, and work within SCHADS level 5 remuneration dependent on qualifications

Qualifications

• Experience and demonstrated understanding of working with young people with problematic alcohol and drug issues in a residential setting and within the context of harm reduction.
• Ability to practice a range of interventions appropriate to a drug and alcohol withdrawal and rehabilitation service.
• Ability to work in a culturally competent way with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to provide shift leadership to a multi-disciplinary team to ensure quality service provision.
• Ability to manage the day-to-day operations of a Residential Unit, including rostering and relevant legislative requirements and organisational policies.
• Experience in the development and maintenance of internal and external stakeholder relationships.
• Developed report writing skills and data management and analysis

Responsibilities

• The Shift Senior role is recognised as a leader within the team and forms part of the unit's leadership group.
• Provides oversight of daily operations of the unit, offering guidance, direction and professional development.
• Assists in timely client access and leads delivery of services on site outside business hours Monday to Friday.
