Job summary

Ventia invites applications for a SHEQ Advisor to lead safety across a defence infrastructure project at Amberley RAAF Base. This hands-on role involves coaching teams, reviewing plans, and driving best-practice safety in a live construction environment.

You will work Monday to Friday, manage subcontractors, and engage stakeholders to deliver safe outcomes while growing your OH&S expertise within a stable team.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Work Health & Safety or equivalent qualification.
  • Current driver's licence and construction white card.
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and management systems.
  • Experience leading incident investigations and assurance activities.
  • Ability to analyse data for actionable risk management strategies.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and presentation skills.
  • Influence operational teams to drive positive safety outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Review project safety plans, SWMS and construction methodologies before work begins.
  • Lead audits, inspections and assurance activities for compliance.
  • Manage site safety risks including excavation, electrical works, contamination and confined spaces.
  • Facilitate toolbox talks, safety meetings and workforce engagement.
  • Lead incident investigations, identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor SHEQ performance data and report to project leadership.
  • Support contractor compliance across the project lifecycle and assist with training.

As the SHEQ Advisor you will lead safety and oversee the maintenance and upgrade of sewage treatment plant assets at Amberley RAAF Base. This is a hands‑on role where you can influence stakeholders, manage contractor engagement and drive best practice safety outcomes in a live construction environment.

You must be an Australian Citizen to satisfy defence clearances

About The Role

This role is ideal for a confident HSE Advisor who enjoys being visible in the field, coaching teams, leading investigations and ensuring all phases of project delivery are planned and executed safely.

  • Reviewing and assessing project safety plans, SWMS and construction methodologies prior to work commencing
  • Leading audits, inspections and assurance activities to ensure compliance with legislative and contractual requirements
  • Managing site safety risks particularly those associated with excavation, electrical installations, contamination, confined spaces and elevated work platforms
  • Facilitating toolbox talks, safety meetings and workforce engagement activities
  • Leading incident investigations, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions
  • Monitoring SHEQ performance data and providing reporting and recommendations to project leadership
  • Building strong relationships with subcontractors and supporting contractor compliance across the project lifecycle
  • Assist with training, competency and compliance (including VOCs) for workforce and identifying development initiatives
About You

Ideally you will come from a construction, civil, water industry or field‑based background with sound experience managing subcontractors.

  • Diploma in Work Health & Safety or equivalent qualification
  • Current drivers licence and construction white card
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and management systems
  • Experience leading incident investigations and assurance activities
  • Ability to analyse data and identify actionable risk management strategies
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and presentation skills
  • Strong organisational, planning and reporting capability
  • Demonstrated ability to influence operational teams and drive positive safety outcomes
  • Plant construction and ICAM training highly desirable
