Job summary

Airway Mechanical Pty Ltd is seeking a qualified Sheetmetal Trade Worker to install, fabricate, and repair ductwork for HVAC systems across NSW. You will interpret plans, measure to precise tolerances and fabricate sections using sheetmetal. On-site assembly, safety compliance, and quality workmanship are essential.

Experience with stainless steel, galvanised iron, aluminium, and mild steel, plus reading drawings and WHS awareness, is required. A White Card and industry tickets are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Qualified sheetmetal tradesperson with fabrication and HVAC component experience.
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings to identify material and dimensions.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety practices and WHS guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret plans and specifications to determine materials and equipment.
  • Measure, mark and prepare sheet metal sections to exact dimensions.
  • Cut, form and fabricate ductwork and HVAC fittings for projects.
  • Operate rollers, folding machines, presses, drills and grinders.
  • Install HVAC units and duct systems on-site according to standards.
  • Perform welding, soldering, riveting and sealing for airtight joints.
  • Inspect and test fabricated ductwork, carry out adjustments as needed.
  • Maintain tidy worksites and uphold safety practices.

Job description

The Sheetmetal Trade Worker is responsible for the on-site installation, fabrication, and repair of sheetmetal components used in HVAC systems. The role requires technical skill, accuracy, and an understanding of various metals and fabrication techniques used in commercial mechanical services.

Key responsibilities

  • Interpret plans, blueprints, and technical specifications to identify required materials, dimensions, and equipment for each project
  • Measure, mark, and prepare sheet metal sections to exact dimensions using templates, gauges, and precision instruments
  • Cut and shape various types of metals such as stainless steel, galvanised iron, aluminium, and mild steel using both hand tools and power equipment
  • Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork systems and HVAC fittings for commercial projects, ensuring compliance with site requirements
  • Operate equipment such as rollers, folding machines, presses, drills, and grinders to bend, form, and finish sheet metal components
  • Install and secure HVAC units and associated components on-site in line with project and safety standards
  • Perform joining processes including welding, soldering, riveting, and sealing to ensure airtight and durable duct connections
  • Inspect and test fabricated ductwork and fittings, carrying out adjustments and repairs as required
  • Conduct maintenance and repair on damaged sheet metal ducts to restore efficiency and airflow performance
  • Maintain workplace safety and adhere to WHS guidelines by ensuring tools and equipment are used correctly and worksites are kept tidy

About you

  • Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade (Sheetmetal Working) or equivalent
  • Certificate IV in Engineering (desirable but not mandatory)
  • Demonstrated experience in sheetmetal fabrication and HVAC component installation
  • White Card and relevant industry tickets (e.g. confined space, working at heights)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and plans
  • Strong understanding of workplace safety practices and procedures
  • At least three years of relevant work experience may substitute if no formal qualifications
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
