Job summary

The NSW Department of Education is seeking a practical and hands-on Service Designer to work across complex services, understanding user needs and designing better service experiences from discovery to implementation.

You will conduct stakeholder and user interviews, journey mapping, service blueprinting, prototyping and user testing, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to translate insights into practical recommendations.

• Salary: Clerk Grade 7/8, $116,981 to $ 129,492 + Super + accrued flex leaves

About the role

The Service Designerwill work acrosscomplex services andprograms tounderstand user needs, identify opportunitiesfor improvement anddesign better serviceexperiences. The rolewill apply human-centred design practicesthroughout the servicedesign lifecycle, fromresearch and discoverythrough to prototyping,testing and implementation.

The Service Designerwill work closelywith users, stakeholdersand multidisciplinary teamsto gatherinsights and translatethem into meaningfuldesign outcomes. Keyactivities will includestakeholder and userinterviews, journey mapping, service blueprinting,qualitative synthesis, co-design workshops, prototypingand user testing.

The Service Designeris expected to be able to use virtual innovation and project managementplatforms confidently tosupport collaborative workshops, service mapping, researchactivities, planning, taskmanagement and deliveryacross projects

About you

The ideal candidatewill be apractical and hands-on Service Designerwith experience applyinghuman-centred designmethodologies in government, public sector, consulting, not-for-profit or othercomplex service environments.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

• Practical experience using human-centred design including user research, prototyping and facilitation.
• Strongqualitative research andanalysis skills, with the abilityto synthesise complex information and identify themes, patterns, insights andopportunities.
• Experience working inagile, multidisciplinaryand cross-functionalteams, collaborating effectivelywithdesigners, researchers,policy, technology, implementation and business stakeholders.
• The ability tocontribute tostrategic design directionacross programs ofwork, while remaining comfortablewith detailed, design delivery.
• Strongfacilitation, communicationand stakeholder engagementskills, with the abilityto explain designconcepts and researchfindings to peoplewith different levelsof design experience.
• A curious, user-focused andoutcome-oriented approach, with the abilityto balanceuser needs, businessobjectives and deliveryconstraints.
• The ability towork with ambiguity, ask the rightquestions, structure complexproblems and translateresearchand design insightsintopractical recommendationsand outcomes .

• Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Essential requirements of the role

• Current and valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) Clearance for paid employment.
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education .
