Job summary

Melbourne Citymission Inc. is seeking a Senior Youth Worker to provide daily wellbeing support to students across on-campus and outreach settings.

You will make referrals, engage with care teams and families, and contribute to the Hornbrook Wellbeing Leadership team with high-level wellbeing expertise. You will lead and supervise Youth Workers, Educators and Education Support staff, promoting learning for wellbeing and wellbeing for learning in alignment with the academy’s strategic plans.

Qualifications

• Qualification in Youth Work/Social Work/Community Development or significant demonstrated experience in both classroom and outreach.
• Proven ability to provide outreach supports to disengaged young people to enable them to develop educational knowledge and skills to transition to the classroom.
• Demonstrated experience in leading staff and managing day-to-day competing priorities.
• Highly developed skills in risk and needs assessment and related to education settings.
• Ability to support incident management as directed by Campus Leadership.
• Experience with young people with complex needs or barriers to education (trauma, mental health, out-of-home care).
• Ability to engage with diverse groups including Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander peoples, LGBTQIA+ and diverse cultures.

Responsibilities

• Create and advocate for students’ wellbeing and learning in a multidisciplinary hub.
• Engage with students, families and carers, providing holistic support on campus and through outreach.
• Provide leadership through supervision and reflective practice to staff at each campus.
• Participate in life of the school including meetings, camps, supervision and professional learning.
• Ensure staff practices align with NCCD guidelines and document student support.
