Job summary

NT WorkSafe, a division of the Northern Territory Government, invites applications for two ongoing full-time vacancies in Darwin for Senior WorkSafe Inspector, Electrical. The role conducts electrical inspections, enforces safety standards, and provides guidance to industry.

Candidates must hold an NT Unrestricted Electrical Licence or equivalent, have regulatory experience, and be willing to travel within the Territory.

Qualifications

  • Monitor electrical contractors to ensure ongoing compliance with Work Health and Safety legislation and electrical standards.
  • Represent the division at forums and deliver educational sessions to promote electrical safety.

Technical 5 Remuneration Package Range: $126,522 - $137,577

(including salary $107,238 - $116,744)

Are you an experienced electrical professional with a sound understanding of the wiring rules and a passion for ensuring electrical safety?

NT WorkSafe is a division of the Attorney-General’s Department and is responsible for assisting businesses and workers to understand their obligations under work health and safety, dangerous goods, electrical safety and workers compensation legislation across the Northern Territory.

As a Senior WorkSafe Inspector, Electrical, you will perform the functions and exercise the powers of an appointed inspector in accordance with legislation administered by NT WorkSafe. You will conduct electrical inspections and enquiries, provide clear advice and enforce compliance when required to ensure work environments are without risk in accordance with legislation administered by NT WorkSafe.

To be shortlisted you must hold a current Northern Territory Unrestricted Electrical Mechanic’s Licence, A Grade Electrical Mechanic’s Licence or an equivalent interstate or New Zealand licence. You will also need demonstrated experience in electrical inspection work and in conducting enquiries into complaints or incidents, supported by sound knowledge and experience in the interpretation and application of legislation, relevant codes and standards and an awareness of the principles of procedural fairness and regulatory environments.

You will apply sound judgement, communication and regulatory skills to support the delivery of NT WorkSafe’s statutory functions and strategic objectives, working as part of a dedicated technical electrical specialist team.

You will:

  • Perform the regulatory functions of an Authorised Officer/Inspector in accordance with legislation administered by NT WorkSafe.
  • Undertake inspections, test electrical installations using tools and technical testing equipment, investigate electrical and workplace incidents, compliance monitoring, auditing and complaint handling, and report on potential enforcement action.
  • Monitor electrical contractors to ensure ongoing compliance with the Work Health and Safety (National Uniform Legislation) and Electrical Safety legislationand participate in other compliance programs.
  • Work in partnership and cooperation with stakeholders to promote and encourage best practice and compliance.
  • Represent the division at forums to deliver educational sessions to encourage continuous improvement of electrical safety.

It is a requirement that you currently hold a valid Australian Driver Licence and are willing to travel within the Territory. You must also be able to obtain a Working with Children Clearance.
