Wholesale Meat Trader | Melbourne
Join a market leader. Build something of your own.
Our client is part of a global food and protein group and is the Australian market leader within its category, supported by a significant operational footprint, processing capability and supply network across the country.
The business has experienced substantial growth over the past 5–6 years, with its two core routes to market contributing to more than $400 million of growth during this period.
While the business has an established export operation, the domestic wholesale division is one of its two key routes to market and continues to represent a significant area of opportunity.
As part of that continued growth, the business is now looking for an experienced Wholesale Meat Trader to join the Melbourne-based commercial team.
This is a newly created position, offering the opportunity to join a large, well-resourced organisation while still having the autonomy and commercial influence you’d expect from a newly established role.
You’ll be responsible for developing and growing wholesale customers across Melbourne and interstate, working closely with the broader commercial and operational teams to identify opportunities, understand customer requirements and deliver the right product at the right price.
They’re looking for someone who understands meat from the ground up.
Ideally, you’ll have started your career in meat production, processing or butchery before transitioning into wholesale meat sales/trading. You’ll understand cuts, specifications, yields, pricing, balancing of the carcass and the realities of the supply chain, but equally importantly, you’ll have developed the commercial skills required to win new customers and grow accounts.
They’re not looking for someone simply because they have a large existing customer book.
They’re looking for someone who can demonstrate a track record of building and substantially growing an account base, whether that has been from scratch or through significant organic growth.
They’re particularly interested in speaking with candidates who have:
This isn’t simply another wholesale trading position.
You’ll be joining a market-leading Australian business backed by an international group, with the scale, infrastructure and operational capability to support significant commercial growth.
As this is a newly created position, you’ll have the opportunity to make the role your own and play a genuine part in expanding the domestic wholesale channel.
Just as importantly, there is significant long-term career runway.
For the right person, progression could come through the commercial function into more senior trading, account management or leadership positions, or potentially into other areas of the broader business as opportunities arise.
You’ll have access to a much larger organisation and a wider range of career pathways than you would typically find within a smaller wholesale operation.
If you’re a meat professional who has successfully transitioned from production, processing or butchery into wholesale sales and you’ve built a reputation for winning business, growing accounts and understanding the product technically, we’d like to hear from you.
