Job summary

Central Highlands Water in Ballarat, Victoria, is seeking a Senior Technical Officer – Distribution Water Quality to lead strategies ensuring regulatory water quality requirements are met across the drinking water distribution network.

You will manage disinfectant residuals, oversee inspection programs, respond to incidents, and develop a real-time monitoring strategy while collaborating with maintenance teams. A strong emphasis on safety and regulatory compliance is required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge and demonstrated experience in water quality management within a water supply system.
• Strong organisational and communication skills with attention to detail.
• Experience leading teams and delivering water quality outcomes.
• Knowledge of safety, water quality and environmental regulations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and monitor delivery of strategies and programs to meet water quality requirements.
• Disinfectant residual management within the network distribution system, including storage and distribution tanks and management of water age.
• Monitor inspection and cleaning programs for distribution system pipes and tanks/basins; assess effectiveness and action outcomes.
• Lead responses to distribution water quality incidents (microbial, taste/odour, security breaches, discolouration, backflow).
• Coordinate training/education programs and mentor maintenance teams in applying water quality controls.
• Develop and implement a risk-based distribution system-wide real-time water quality monitoring strategy.
• Collaborate with maintenance functions to incorporate water quality outcomes within maintenance programs.
