Job description

Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world

The Role

The role will lead the planning and delivery of multidisciplinary water infrastructure projects across Queensland and the wider region. It is suited to a capable water engineer with a civil or mechanical engineering background and strong experience in project management within the water industry, including water and wastewater networks, pipelines, pump stations, treatment facilities and associated infrastructure.

The successful candidate will take ownership of projects and major work packages from scope definition and proposal development through planning, design, approvals, delivery and close-out. They will provide a clear interface between clients, technical teams and Arup's project governance processes, ensuring that safety, quality, programme, commercial and technical outcomes are actively managed.

The position requires a practical understanding of engineering delivery and the ability to coordinate civil, mechanical, process, electrical, structural, environmental, digital and other specialist inputs. The Senior Water Engineer will not be expected to act as the technical specialist in every discipline but must be able to challenge assumptions, identify interfaces and risks, and obtain appropriate technical assurance.

The Opportunity:

  • Lead the safe, timely and commercially sound delivery of multidisciplinary water infrastructure projects and major work packages.
  • Establish and manage project scope, programme, budget, resourcing, risk, governance and reporting.
  • Lead client and stakeholder engagement, building trusted relationships and proactively managing expectations.
  • Lead project planning, multidisciplinary design coordination, reviews, approvals, change management and close-out.
  • Lead bid management and proposal preparation, including scopes, methodologies, programmes, fees and resourcing.
  • Monitor project and commercial performance, including programme, forecasting, invoicing, risks and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary inputs and ensure appropriate technical assurance, quality and RPEQ certification arrangements.
  • Lead project teams through clear direction, coaching, mentoring and effective resource coordination

  • Current Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) registration in Civil and/or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Ideally 10 or more years of relevant professional experience, including substantial experience delivering water-sector projects in a consulting, utility, contractor or infrastructure environment.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering multidisciplinary water and wastewater infrastructure projects, preferably including networks, pipelines, pump stations, treatment facilities and associated works.
  • Demonstrated experience managing project scope, programme, budget, resources, risk, change and client reporting.
  • Sound commercial capability, including proposal and fee preparation, forecasting, invoicing, change control and management of project financial performance.
  • Working knowledge of relevant Queensland legislation, engineering obligations, standards and water-industry requirements, including applicable WSAA Codes, SEQ Design and Construction Code requirements and utility/client standards
