Job summary

Canva is hiring for a 6-month engagement focused on AI-driven visual data annotation and model evaluation. You will work at the intersection of design, data and AI research to strengthen feedback loops for premium AI outputs.

You’ll annotate images, UI layouts and graphics with high precision, and help shape how Canva’s AI sees and creates. You’ll collaborate with researchers, ML engineers and product designers in a remote-friendly, Sydney/Melbourne-focused setup, contributing to taxonomy

Qualifications

• Strong design fundamentals including composition, color theory, typography and layout.
• Portfolio demonstrating visual excellence across graphic design, product design, UI/UX, or related domains.
• Familiar with generative AI tools and how training data affects model behavior.
• Ability to evaluate visual outputs with precision and articulate structured, repeatable feedback.
• Comfortable working in documentation-heavy, cross-functional environments.
• Keen to help shape how AI models see and create.

Responsibilities

• Annotate and label large volumes of visual data with high precision across images, UI layouts, graphics and photography.
• Evaluate AI-generated outputs for aesthetic quality, composition, accessibility, usability, and brand alignment.
• Develop visual scoring rubrics and evaluation frameworks to guide model improvement.
• Identify patterns, failure modes, and edge cases to improve model performance.
• Translate nuanced design critique into structured, actionable feedback for ML engineers and researchers.
• Use generative AI tools to prototype workflows and test hypotheses.
• Contribute to taxonomy development for visual styles and design patterns.
• Maintain high data quality and thorough documentation across annotation projects.
