Megavar invites applications for a Senior Testing and Commissioning Engineer to lead HV commissioning across Australia, within an environment focused on high voltage substations, BESS and renewables. Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in electrical or power engineering or related discipline.
• 5+ years’ hands-on HV electrical systems commissioning experience (substations, protection & control, renewables or BESS).
• Demonstrated experience leading commissioning on transmission or renewable energy projects.
• Strong understanding of protection and control systems, power systems and Australian standards.
• Proficiency with secondary injection test sets; Omicron experience is advantageous.
• Willingness to travel and work at project sites across Australia.
• Ability to keep test records, documentation and deadlines tight on client-facing work.

Responsibilities

• Test and validate protection, control, and SCADA systems against design specs and standards (Omicron equipment).
• Lead on-site test teams and manage commissioning programs end-to-end.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during commissioning with design teams and clients.
• Prepare and review commissioning documentation: test plans, test records, ITPs and reports.
• Liaise with clients, contractors and network operators on technical issues and problem resolution.
• Mentor less experienced commissioning engineers.

Senior Testing and Commissioning Engineer

Location: Hobart, Launceston, Adelaide or Newcastle (with project travel across Australia)

Megavar is a specialist high voltage engineering firm delivering testing and commissioning, primary and secondary design, and substation maintenance for network businesses, generators and renewable energy developers across Tasmania, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Queensland. We’re looking for a Senior Testing and Commissioning Engineer to lead primary and secondary commissioning on transmission and distribution substations, BESS and renewable energy projects across Australia, running test teams on site and taking commissioning programs through to energisation.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Primary and secondary commissioning of transmission and distribution substations, BESS and renewable energy projects across Australia.
• Testing and validating protection, control and SCADA systems against design specifications, Australian standards and client requirements, predominantly using Omicron test equipment.
• Leading test teams on site and managing commissioning programs end to end.
• Fault-finding and resolving technical issues during commissioning, and working with design teams and clients to close them out.
• Preparing and reviewing commissioning documentation: test plans, test records, ITPs and commissioning reports.
• Liaising directly with clients, contractors and network operators on technical issues and problem resolution.
• Mentoring less experienced commissioning engineers.

What We’re Looking For

• A degree or diploma in electrical or power engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years’ hands‑on experience commissioning HV electrical systems: substations, protection and control, renewables or BESS.
• Demonstrated experience leading commissioning on transmission or renewable energy projects.
• A strong understanding of protection and control systems, power systems and the relevant Australian standards.
• Proficiency with secondary injection test sets and diagnostic equipment. Omicron experience is well regarded.
• Willingness to travel and work at project sites across Australia.
