Job summary

Evolution Mining, a leading Australian gold producer, is seeking a Senior Tax Adviser in Sydney to support tax compliance, governance and financial reporting within a large group.

You will work closely with the Head of Tax on acquisitions, restructures, international tax and strategic initiatives, while delivering hands-on tax support and process improvements in a value-driven, in-house environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years Australian tax experience within professional services or a corporate environment.
• Strong technical corporate tax knowledge and analytical capability.
• Experience with tax governance, compliance and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Support direct and indirect tax compliance across Australia and international operations.
• Manage tax compliance processes with external advisers and technology platforms.
• Assist income tax reporting, BAS reviews and tax-effect accounting.
• Support tax audits and regulatory reviews with advisers.
• Provide advice on acquisitions, restructures and strategic transactions.
• Assist with international tax, state taxes and complex technical issues.
• Drive process improvements through technology and data-driven solutions.
• Build strong relationships across Finance, Commercial and operations.

We are now seeking a Senior Tax Adviser to join our Group Finance & Commercial team in Sydney.

About the role

Reporting directly to the Head of Tax, this role offers a rare opportunity to work across both tax compliance and advisory activities within a large, listed resources company.

As a key member of the tax function, you will support the delivery of tax compliance, tax governance and financial reporting obligations, while also contributing to acquisitions, investments, restructures, due diligence activities and strategic business initiatives.

This is an ideal opportunity for a technically strong tax professional who enjoys being hands-on, partnering with stakeholders and building broader commercial experience in an in-house environment

Working closely with the Head of Tax, responsibilities will include:

• Supporting the company’s direct and indirect tax compliance obligations across Australia and international operations
• Managing tax compliance processes in conjunction with external advisers and tax technology platforms
• Assisting with income tax reporting, BAS review processes and tax effect accounting
• Supporting tax audits and reviews with regulators and external advisers
• Providing advice on acquisitions, divestments, restructures and other strategic transactions
• Assisting with international tax, tax governance, state taxes and complex technical matters
• Supporting due diligence activities and business projects
• Driving process improvements through technology, automation and data-driven solutions
• Building strong relationships across Finance, Commercial and operational teams

About you

You will bring strong Australian corporate tax experience together with the curiosity and commercial mindset to contribute across a broad range of tax matters.

We are interested in hearing from candidates who have gained experience within a Big 4 or mid-tier professional services environment, a listed company or a complex corporate group.

To be successful, you will demonstrate:

• 5+ years Australian tax experience within professional services or a corporate environment
• Strong technical corporate tax knowledge
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
• The ability to interpret complex technical matters and communicate practical outcomes
• A highly numerate approach and confidence working with data, spreadsheets and technology platforms
• A proactive and collaborative working style
• CA or CPA qualification (or progress towards completion), or a Masters of Tax or Law qualification

Experience within mining, resources or other capital-intensive industries will be highly regarded, but is not essential.
