Job summary

Thales in Australia is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to lead engineering and integration activities within a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring delivery against scope, cost, schedule and quality targets.

The role demands 5+ years in Defence or major projects, a systems engineering background (software, hardware or systems), and Chartered Engineer or INCOSE CSEP eligibility, with strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical/Mechatronics, Software, Electronics/Electrical or Systems engineering.
• Chartered Professional Engineer – Engineers Australia (or able to achieve) and/or INCOSE CSEP eligibility.
• At least 5 years of experience in a Defence or Major project environment at a senior level.
• Strong background in systems engineering, software development or hardware development.
• Experience in requirements development, requirements management and the use of requirements tools.
• Experience of integration, verification, validation, qualification engineering.

Responsibilities

• Managing all engineering, design, development and integration activity within the project, ensuring commitments (Scope, Cost, Quality, Schedule, Risk).
• Provide direction, expert advice, mentoring, and workflow management to support milestones.
• Guide technical teams on integration and configuration matters aligned to the architecture.
• Optimize technical work and organise system engineering reviews from design to validation.
• Define and apply the system development cycle and applicable processes, practices and tools.
• Identify risks, propose solutions, and report cost savings and residual risks.
• Participate in technical reviews, workshops and project reviews.
• Produce or review Engineering Cost estimates for modifications to the baseline.
