Job summary

Thales Australia seeks an experienced Systems Engineer to lead and continuously improve systems engineering and system safety across the Munitions business. You will support bids, manage a team, and drive discipline uplift while collaborating with customers and partners to deliver safe, high-quality solutions.

Ideal candidates have a background in aerospace/mechanical/electrical/mechatronics, strong fundamentals, and experience in design/manufacturing with DDQS and MIL-STD-882.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with eligibility for Chartered Engineer and NER registration.
  • Experience in design/manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of DDQS and MIL-STD-882.
  • Strong fundamentals in engineering and configuration management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and technical documentation.
  • Experience in agile environments is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and continuously improve Systems Engineering and System Safety frameworks across the Munitions business.
  • Support bids and projects by applying tailored systems engineering methods to deliver safe high-quality solutions.
  • Manage and develop a team of System Safety Engineers, overseeing workload, performance and growth.
  • Drive discipline uplift across engineering teams and act as a mentor and technical authority.
  • Collaborate with customers, partners and cross-functional teams to deliver complex engineering outcomes.
  • Contribute to project leadership by fostering innovation, ensuring timely delivery and upholding safety and compliance.

Our Munitions teams in Benalla and Mulwala produce propellants, explosives and munitions for defence and commercial uses. YOUR ROLE
  • Lead and continuously improve Systems Engineering and System Safety frameworks across the Munitions business
  • Support bids and projects by applying tailored systems engineering methods to deliver safe high-quality solutions

Your Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Chemical or equivalent) with eligibility for Chartered Engineer and NER registration
  • Proven experience in similar engineering roles within design and manufacturing environments
  • Capability using frameworks such as DDQS and MIL-STD-882
  • Strong engineering fundamentals, including first-principles calculations, configuration management and understanding of quality systems
  • High level interpersonal, organisational and communication skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Desirable experience in agile environments and familiarity with Defence operations
