Position Overview

The Senior Systems Engineer is a specialist within EOS Space Systems (EOS SS) and is responsible for applying knowledge to the development of products and designs that support the product development and product goals of EOS SS. Senior Systems Engineers exercise technical knowledge within or across specialist disciplines and the ability to work under general direction to apply strategic alignment. Adherence to governance and standards and interacting with people in cross functional teams to achieve business outcomes with the appropriate levels of integrity, safety, and ethics of these designs is critical to the role.

Primary Duties

Specific Functions & Tasks

  • Conduct the Systems Engineering review process for the whole product development lifecycle.
  • Support the configuration control of systems for program milestone reviews.
  • Develop verification and validation plans and ensure capture of analysis and test results allowing sign-off of requirements.
  • Support change through the full Systems Engineering lifecycle including requirements gathering, design, development, integration, verification, deployment and sustainment, as well as supporting the ongoing development of the Support System.
  • Development of Systems Engineering documentation and artefacts.
  • Assist with the development of verification and validation plans.
  • Assist with providing suggestions and recommendations for hardware and software specifications, through supporting activities such as: functional analysis, timeline analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies.
  • Assist with the implementation of concept demonstration, prototype and production systems in collaboration with all engineering disciplines.
  • Enable the use of rigorous system development methods to ensure safe, secure, and reliable systems.
  • Ensure requirements, design traceability and configuration management are enabled according to relevant standards.
  • Engage the Project Management Group regarding Senior Systems Engineering, project management, documentation and quality activities.
  • Adhere to and ensure understanding and compliance with company procedures to achieve a safe and secure work environment.
Strategy and Architecture

Develop environment that fosters seamless capture of EOS SS' IP as well as, develop strategies for capturing and assessment of legacy IP data. Apply strategy for emerging, new, and current technologies, products, services within Space Systems and provide support for the innovation and delivery practices required to assure the implementation of this strategy. Assess and apply engineering methods and tools in specific domains, Space System knowledge, and engineering best practice to maintain competitive advantage, explore EOS SS technologies and recommend how to minimise exposure and risk. Communicate, advocate and influence stakeholders through effective negotiation and communication while fostering an environment of innovation, learning and continuous improvement within and outside the organisation. Development and implementation of Engineering Undertake cohesive best practice designs and analysis and develop efficient work practices to support product development activities and business outcomes. Understand and apply the routine use of rigorous development and problem-solving methods to apply safe, secure, and reliable solutions to engineering problems. Work collaboratively with engineers across functional teams to solve complex problems as a team and ensure all requirements are identified, captured, and analysed such that the design/product can be developed that satisfies the safety, quality, policy, legislative and design authority requirements. Undertake clear and pragmatic tests, evaluation and verification activities on integrated system designs and prototypes (including formal check points) to verify and provide recommendations for sign-off of all design requirements to the lead engineer and Design Authorities based on relevant legislative requirements, standards, and contracts. Prepare and review all documentation at the team levels that is required to support designs and provide tailored advice and recommendations to teams and decision makers.

Relationship and engagement

Actively listen, share knowledge and experience, provide guidance and mentorship, and work collaboratively to support teams across engineering and other relevant internal and external customers to deliver engineering and business outcomes. Work with Production Engineers and Technicians to apply and ensure the best design solutions are delivered to solve production problems and obtain business outcomes under the broad direction of the Chief Engineer. Interact with EOS Executive, Project Managers, and Project Engineers to ensure design solutions are delivered on time and on budget and meet other project management requirements. Communicate insights and provide strong engineering judgement for progress and the advancement of sound engineering solutions.

Delivery and operation

Interpret the design and execution of user acceptance testing and other verification activities to provide recommendations to the VP Engineering and other Design Authorities. Support production and review manufacturing and supplier requirements to meet specified timeframes, engineering standards, and business outcomes.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering (any specialty, excluding civil).
  • Post Graduate qualifications in Senior Systems Engineering are desirable.
