Job summary

PCR Talent is recruiting for an Associate Director path within 18 months, based in Sydney. This role advances from Senior Structural Engineer to Associate Director, handling major data centres, hospitals, shopping centres and universities.

You will oversee structural design and project delivery, lead programs, manage budgets, and work with architects and clients on complex projects.

You may already have the Senior Structural Engineer title. The more important question is: where is it actually taking you?

A highly respected and long-established Australian engineering consultancy is looking for an accomplished Senior Structural Engineer to join its Sydney structures team, working across some of the more substantial commercial, industrial and institutional projects in the market.

For the right person, there is a genuine opportunity to progress towards Associate Director level within approximately 18 months.

This is not a position built around repetitive residential work. The project portfolio is substantial and diverse, including:

• Data centres and technically complex developments
• Hospitals and healthcare facilities
• Major shopping centres and retail complexes
• Universities and educational facilities
• Large multidisciplinary building projects

You will be joining an established structural team with strong technical capability and the resources to deliver complex projects properly.

At Senior level, you will be expected to take genuine ownership. Your involvement will include:

• Leading structural design and project delivery
• Managing significant projects and structural packages
• Coordinating and mentoring engineers and designers
• Reviewing designs and maintaining technical standards
• Managing programmes, budgets and project deliverables
• Working directly with architects, developers and other consultants
• Attending client, design and construction meetings
• Resolving complex technical and site-related issues
• Becoming increasingly involved in the commercial and leadership side of the business

We are looking for someone with strong Australian building structures experience who is technically credible across reinforced concrete and structural steel and comfortable working on larger commercial and industrial projects.

Just as importantly, you need to be able to communicate well.

At this level, clients need to trust your judgement, younger engineers need to look to you for direction, and project teams need to know that when an issue arises you can make a decision and keep the project moving. The real attraction, however, is what comes next.

The consultancy is looking for someone capable of developing beyond Senior Engineer and taking on the broader client, project, people and commercial responsibilities required at Associate Director level.

If you are performing strongly at Senior level but can no longer see a clear path through the people sitting above you, moving sideways into another Senior title achieves very little.
