Job summary

SASTTI Joint Venture is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to lead the structural design components for water and wastewater infrastructure projects, from early scoping through to detailed design and construction support.

You will mentor junior engineers, coordinate with clients, contractors, and stakeholders, review calculations and reports, and ensure solutions comply with Australian Standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years in engineering consultancy with a focus on structural design.
• Experience leading small engineering teams and mentoring juniors.
• Ability to prepare and review design docs, calculations, and reports.
• Strong knowledge of Australian Standards AS 3600 and AS 5100 and WSAA codes.
• Excellent communication and client-engagement skills.
• Chartered status with Engineers Australia or working towards.
• Full working rights in Australia.

Job description

This position is focused on structural design and design management within water and wastewater infrastructure projects. The role involves leading structural design deliverables from early scoping through to detailed design and construction support, guiding junior team members, reviewing technical outputs, and working closely with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to deliver practical and code-compliant solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Take a lead in liaison with clients and stakeholders to develop design options and progress deliverables including running workshops in person/online
• Lead the structural design components of water and wastewater infrastructure projects
• Coordinate and review work prepared by junior staff and external consultants
• Undertake structural inspections and assessments where required to support design or rehabilitation planning
• Assist in the preparation of technical reports, specifications, and drawings
• Contribute to the ongoing development of team capability and design processes

About you

• Bachelors degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• At least 5 years' experience in an engineering consultancy or related environment, with a focus on structural design
• Experience leading small engineering teams and mentoring junior engineers
• Competent in preparing and reviewing design documentation, calculations, and technical reports
• Good understanding of relevant Australian Standards (e.g., AS 3600, AS 5100) and WSAA codes
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills and confident in engaging with clients and project teams
• Holds (or is working towards) Chartered status with Engineers Australia
• Full working rights in Australia
