Job summary

Public Sector People, on behalf of Canterbury-Bankstown Council, is seeking a Strategic Procurement and Contracts Lead in Bankstown. You will steer end-to-end procurement, manage high-value contracts and drive governance improvements across council services and projects.

This role requires extensive procurement expertise, stakeholder influence and a track record of delivering commercial outcomes. Hybrid working is available with a Bankstown location.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in strategic procurement and lifecycle management within complex environments.
• Proven ability to lead high-value, high-risk procurement activities and major contracts.
• Strong negotiation, risk management and dispute resolution capabilities.
• Understanding of procurement governance, probity and compliance requirements.
• Experience developing or improving contract management frameworks and supplier performance arrangements.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end strategic procurement across high-value, high-risk projects and programs, developing sourcing strategies and market analysis.
• Develop, implement and improve Council's contract management framework, governance, performance monitoring, reporting and guidance for contract owners.
• Provide specialist procurement and contractual advice on major contracts, including negotiation and risk allocation.
• Lead procurement panels and ensure value-for-money and efficient use of purchasing arrangements.
• Strengthen procurement governance, supplier performance, KPIs, variations, extensions and disputes oversight.
• Collaborate with project managers and senior stakeholders to develop procurement strategies and manage contractual obligations.
• Contribute to development of procurement strategies, policies, frameworks and contract management systems.
• Analyze procurement data to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
• Build procurement capability through training and coaching across the Council.
