Job summary

Vero Insurance is seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter for our national Strata team in a hybrid Sydney CBD role. You will underwrite complex Strata risks, negotiate terms, and build broker relationships to drive profitable growth.

You will mentor less-experienced underwriters, share technical knowledge, and collaborate across Distribution, Claims, Pricing & Analytics, Actuarial, and Risk Engineering to deliver strong, sustainable outcomes.

Qualifications

• Five years' Strata underwriting experience.
• Strong knowledge of Strata insurance and risk appetite.
• Experience coaching or mentoring.
• Degree in Business, Commerce, Insurance or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and negotiate new business, renewals, and mid-term policy adjustments across the Strata portfolio.
• Apply technical expertise to complex Strata risks and set terms in line with risk appetite.
• Build strong relationships with brokers and deliver a responsive, solutions-focused service.
• Support Strata go-to-market and distribution strategy to grow the portfolio.
• Partner with Risk Engineering, Claims, and other teams to deliver positive outcomes for brokers and customers.

We're looking for an experienced Senior Underwriter to join our national Strata team. This is an opportunity to combine your technical underwriting expertise with relationship building, commercial thinking, and coaching, while helping us deliver sustainable, profitable growth. You'll work closely with brokers and colleagues across Distribution, Claims, Pricing & Analytics, Actuarial, Risk Engineering, Reinsurance, Finance, and other underwriting teams. What you'll do:

In this role, you'll:

• Underwrite and negotiate new business, renewals, and mid-term policy adjustments across our Strata portfolio.
• Apply your technical expertise to complex Strata risks, setting appropriate terms and conditions in line with risk appetite and delegated underwriting authority.
• Build strong, collaborative relationships with brokers and help deliver a responsive, solutions-focused service.
• Support the Strata go-to-market and distribution strategy, identifying opportunities to strengthen existing relationships and grow the portfolio.
• Partner with Risk Engineering, Claims, and other specialist teams to deliver positive outcomes for brokers and customers.
• Contribute to broker training, industry events and conversations about emerging market and regulatory trends.

What you'll bring:

You'll ideally have:

• At least five years' Strata underwriting experience, with demonstrated experience underwriting complex Strata accounts.
• Strong technical knowledge of Strata insurance, underwriting principles, risk appetite and delegated underwriting authority.
• An understanding of reinsurance and risk engineering as they relate to Strata underwriting.
• Strong relationship-building, communication, influencing, and negotiation skills, particularly when working with brokers and internal stakeholders.
• Commercial judgement and the ability to balance customer needs, risk, and profitable portfolio outcomes.
• Experience in Commercial Strata underwriting, previous experience in a senior Strata underwriting role, coaching or mentoring experience, and a relevant degree in Business, Commerce, Insurance or a related field would be highly regarded rather than essential.
