Job summary

Peoplebank is seeking a highly experienced Senior Spatial Architect to lead the architecture, governance, and delivery assurance of enterprise GIS and spatial technology solutions across Australia.

The role acts as a trusted advisor and design authority, defining spatial strategies, target-state architectures, cloud designs, and data governance as part of transformation roadmaps for complex geospatial environments.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience leading GIS, geospatial, or enterprise technology architecture initiatives in large organisations.
• Australian Citizenship is essential.
• Track record delivering enterprise-scale technology transformation or spatial capability uplift.
• Strong understanding of geospatial tech, data ecosystems, and enterprise integration.
• Hands-on experience designing cloud-based solutions across AWS and/or Azure.

Responsibilities

• Drive strategic direction and evolution of enterprise geospatial platforms across large environments.
• Develop architecture roadmaps to support transformation and long-term tech objectives.
• Provide technical leadership across spatial initiatives, ensuring scalability and enterprise alignment.
• Oversee modern GIS ecosystems, including cloud technologies, data platforms, and security.
• Lead spatial data transformation programs including governance, migration, and quality improvements.
• Assess designs, identify risks, and guide delivery teams through project lifecycles.
• Partner with business leaders to translate objectives into practical tech outcomes.
• Facilitate architecture workshops and governance forums while driving continuous improvement.
• Coach and mentor technical teams and establish architectural standards.

The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Spatial Architect to lead the architecture, governance, and delivery assurance of enterprise GIS and spatial technology solutions. This position will act as a trusted advisor and technical design authority, responsible for defining spatial strategies, target-state architectures, cloud platform designs, data governance frameworks, and transformation roadmaps across complex geospatial environments.

Responsibilities

• Drive the strategic direction and evolution of enterprise geospatial platforms and capabilities across large and complex environments.
• Develop architecture roadmaps that support business transformation, operational efficiency, and long-term technology objectives.
• Provide technical leadership across spatial initiatives, ensuring solutions are fit-for-purpose, scalable, and aligned with enterprise standards.
• Oversee the design of modern GIS ecosystems, incorporating cloud technologies, data platforms, integration services, security, and operational support models.
• Lead spatial data transformation programs including governance, migration, quality improvement, and system interoperability initiatives.
• Assess solution designs, identify architectural risks, and provide guidance to delivery teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Partner with business leaders and technology stakeholders to translate strategic objectives into practical technology outcomes.
• Facilitate architecture workshops, technical reviews, and governance forums while supporting continuous improvement across spatial capabilities.
• Coach and mentor technical teams, helping establish best practices, reusable frameworks, and architectural standards.

Key Experience

• Extensive experience leading GIS, geospatial, or enterprise technology architecture initiatives within complex organisational environments.
• Australian Citizenship is essential.
• Demonstrated track record delivering enterprise-scale technology transformation, platform modernisation, or spatial capability uplift programs.
• Strong understanding of geospatial technologies, spatial information management, enterprise integration, and data ecosystems.
• Hands-on experience designing and governing cloud-based solutions across AWS and/or Azure environments.
• Ability to operate as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders while providing architecture governance and technical oversight.
• Proven leadership experience managing cross-functional teams, vendors, and delivery partners on complex programs.

Desirable Experience

• Background working within utilities, water, energy, mining, transport, telecommunications, infrastructure, or other operationally intensive industries.
• Exposure to asset management and operational platforms, including enterprise maintenance, mobility, analytics, and operational support systems.
• Familiarity with leading geospatial and spatial data technologies, including Esri platforms, FME, enterprise databases, integration frameworks, and cloud-native services.
• Experience delivering enterprise data migration, data remediation, platform consolidation, or operating model transformation initiatives.
