Job summary

PCL Constructors Pacific Rim PTY Ltd. in Sydney, New South Wales seeks a Senior Design Engineer to lead solar PV design efforts for grid-connected and hybrid systems. You’ll develop electrical and structural designs, review schematics, and mentor junior engineers in a fast-paced EPC environment.

You’ll apply PVsyst, Helioscope and AutoCAD, ensure compliance with AS/NZS standards, coordinate with project teams and clients, and drive value engineering to optimise performance and cost.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in solar PV design, preferably within an EPC or consultancy environment.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVsyst, Helioscope, and other relevant design and simulation tools.
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, grid integration, and renewable energy technologies.
• Familiarity with Australian standards and grid connection processes.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and lead cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and engineering of solar PV systems, including grid-connected and hybrid systems.
• Develop and review detailed electrical and structural designs, including single-line diagrams, layout drawings, cable schedules, and protection schemes.
• Perform energy yield assessments using tools like PVsyst, Helioscope, or equivalent
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant standards (e.g., AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 5033, IEC, local grid codes).
• Collaborate with project managers, procurement teams, and construction teams to ensure design feasibility and alignment with project goals.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and design staff.
• Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering to optimize system performance and cost.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, and regulatory authorities to obtain design approvals and permits.
• Support commissioning and troubleshooting activities during project execution.
• Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of design standards, templates, and processes.
