Job description

Join to apply for the Senior Software Engineer (Android) role at Heidi Health

Heidi is on a mission to halve the time it takes to deliver world-class care. We believe that by 2050, every clinician will practice with AI systems that free them from administrative burdens and increase the quality and accessibility of care to patients across the world. Built for clinicians, by clinicians, Heidi is powered by its people across diverse roles and disciplines.

We’ve grown rapidly and are expanding our Mobile team. You will lead the development of Heidi’s first native Android applications, collaborating with our iOS engineers and product designers to deliver seamless, secure mobile experiences.

The Role

We’re seeking a Senior Android Engineer to join our Mobile team and lead the development of Heidi’s first native Android applications. You’ll bring Heidi functionalities into the hands of clinicians, working closely with our iOS engineers and product designers to deliver seamless, beautiful, and secure mobile experiences. You’ll architect and build Heidi’s Android app from the ground up, ensuring it is robust, scalable, and optimized for performance. This includes integrating on-device machine learning models and leveraging Compose and other Jetpack libraries to ensure maintainable, modern code. You’ll manage the full Android development lifecycle—from setting up CI/CD pipelines and automated testing to optimizing for different device configurations and ensuring compliance with privacy and security standards essential in healthcare. Experience with Kotlin and native Android APIs will be crucial. You’ll also play a key role in cross-platform collaboration, knowledge sharing, and mentoring as we grow the mobile team.

What you’ll do

  • Architect and develop Heidi’s first Android app, taking it from concept to launch
  • Define the Android mobile infrastructure and best practices for future functionality and team growth
  • Collaborate with our iOS engineers to ensure cross-platform consistency and knowledge sharing
  • Integrate on-device ML models to enable real-time AI features
  • Work closely with design and product teams to deliver pixel-perfect, intuitive UIs
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare privacy and security standards (HIPAA, GDPR, etc.)
  • Continuously optimise app performance, reliability, and security

What we’ll look for

  • 5+ years of professional Android development experience, fluent in Kotlin and Android ecosystem SDKs
  • Deep knowledge of native Android APIs, Compose and other Jetpack libraries, and modern architectural patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture)
  • Experience running ML models on-device (TensorFlow Lite or similar) is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with RESTful API integrations, offline storage, and performance tuning
  • Experience submitting and maintaining apps on Google Play
  • Some exposure to iOS (Swift UI) and willingness to collaborate closely with our iOS team
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ownership, and a detail-oriented mindset
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, flat-structured, and high-agency environment

What do we believe in?

  • We create unconventional solutions to difficult problems and we build them fast. We want you to set impossible goals and make them happen, thinking big in the medical version of rocket science.
  • You're surrounded by a world-class team of engineers, medicos and designers to do your best work, inspired by our shared beliefs:
  • We will stop at nothing to improve patient care across the world.
  • We design user experiences for joy and ship them fast.
  • We make decisions in a flat hierarchy that prioritizes the truth over rank.
  • We provide the resources for people to succeed and give them the freedom to do it.

Help us reimagine primary care and change the face of healthcare around the world.
