Job summary

Nuix is growing a new AI engineering team in Sydney that owns Enrich — our AI data-enrichment product for finding, identifying and codifying data in unstructured documents — and builds new AI and agentic capability into the Nuix Neo platform. You’ll work with Java, Python and React/TypeScript across SaaS and on-prem deployments.

As a Senior Software Engineer you’ll deliver features end-to-end, raise non-functional quality, and mentor junior engineers in a distributed team across time zones.

Qualifications

• Degree, or equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Typically 7+ years' software engineering experience with a track record delivering complex work end-to-end.
• Strong backend Java and Spring; experience with React/TypeScript; full-stack capability valued.
• Python exposure and comfort with model-backed components and data scientists is a plus.
• Experience with containerised, cloud and on-prem delivery (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS) desirable.
• Interest or experience in AI/LLM-backed features, agents or NLP/document‑intelligence domains is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end delivery of significant features and epics — design, build, test and ship.
• Bring greater awareness of non-functional requirements (security, performance, DevOps) and ensure architecture principles are followed.
• Provide thoughtful, pragmatic code review on complex PRs, capturing security concerns and ensuring secure-by-design practices.
• Set and refine code best practices; help maintain and improve QA gates.
• Be active in architecture discussions — asking questions, challenging approaches, contributing to target state.
• Drive collaboration within the team and communicate effectively across teams and geographies.
• Mentor and support mid-level, associate and graduate engineers.
• Contribute to how we design, evaluate and ship AI agents and agentic capability in the platform.

Role Overview:

We're growing a new AI engineering team in Sydney that owns Enrich — our AI data-enrichment product for finding, identifying and codifying data in unstructured documents — and builds new AI and agentic capability into the Nuix Neo platform. Our stack is Java, Python and React/TypeScript/MUI, shipping across SaaS and on-prem.

As a Senior Software Engineer you're a strong individual contributor who takes features from design to done, raises the bar on non-functional quality (security, performance, DevOps), and helps the team's more junior engineers grow. You'll work across a cross-timezone team and collaborate closely with product, architecture and data science.

Location:

This position will be based in our Sydney office. The candidate is required to attend the office a minimum of 3 days per week but may voluntarily elect to work either remotely or from the Sydney office for the remaining 2 days of the week

Key Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end delivery of significant features and epics — design, build, test and ship.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• Degree, or equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Typically 7+ years' software engineering experience (framework minimum for Senior is 5+), with a demonstrated track record of delivering complex work end-to-end.
• Strong backend Java and experience with Spring framework; and/or React/TypeScript; full-stack capability valued.
• Python exposure and comfort working with model-backed components and data scientists is a plus.
• Experience with containerised, cloud and on-prem delivery (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS) desirable.
• Interest or experience in AI/LLM-backed features, agents or NLP/document‑intelligence domains is highly desirable.
• Recognised as a subject‑matter expert in at least one technical area; a clear communicator and a positive, mentoring presence in a distributed team.
