Job summary

Paradino in Sydney is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) to own Python services powering our AI-driven advisory platform. You’ll shape architecture, ensure performance, security and reliability as the team grows.

You’ll work directly with the founding team in a fast-moving, small-team environment, delivering production-grade systems and integrating with cloud services on GCP.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience.
• Shipping and operating production systems for paying customers.
• Strong Python expertise with FastAPI, Pydantic, async programming.
• Relational databases including PostgreSQL.
• API design, data modelling and third-party integrations (REST, webhooks, OAuth).
• Cloud environments (GCP); containers, queues, background jobs, observability tooling.
• Security-first mindset when handling sensitive data.
• Hands-on AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Codex.
• Familiarity with LLM APIs and patterns (structured outputs, tool calling).
• TypeScript experience to read/modify frontend.

Responsibilities

About the opportunity

As a Senior Software Engineer (Backend), you’ll be a core owner of the Python services that power Paradino’s advice platform, including APIs, data models, document generation, integrations and the runtime supporting its AI agents.

This is a hands‑on engineering role with genuine influence. You’ll work directly with the founding team to shape the technical architecture and product, while making the platform fast, reliable, secure and scalable as Paradino grows.

You’ll also be joining an engineering environment where AI is part of how software gets built day-to-day. Tools such as Claude Code and Codex are used actively, and you’ll help establish the backend patterns and standards the team builds on.

About you

You’re an experienced backend engineer who likes owning problems end-to-end, not simply picking up tickets.

You’ll bring:

• 5+ years’ backend engineering experience , including shipping and operating production systems for paying customers.

• Deep Python expertise, with experience in modern web frameworks such as FastAPI, Pydantic, async programming and relational databases including PostgreSQL.

• Strong experience in API design, data modelling and third‑party integrations , including REST APIs, webhooks and OAuth.

• Experience working in cloud environments. Paradino runs on GCP , using containers, queues, background jobs and observability tooling.

• A security‑first mindset, particularly when working with sensitive customer data, access controls and auditability.

• Hands‑on experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Codex as part of your development workflow.

• Familiarity with LLM APIs and patterns such as structured outputs and tool calling. You don’t need to be an AI Engineer, but you’ll work closely alongside one.

• Enough TypeScript experience to confidently read and modify the frontend when needed.
