The Story

Transcendomics is an innovative company established in 2024 to scale clinical genomic testing across Australia and beyond. Their product, Genomical, is a market‑leading Genomic Information Management System (GIMS) that makes genomic testing safer, easier, and scalable for laboratories.

Genomical bridges gaps in the genomic test workflow by automating data workflows and securely storing genomic data in a cloud‑based platform. They’re building critical infrastructure that supports clinical organisations and pathology laboratories in delivering life‑changing genomic tests.

The Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll contribute to the development and improvement of core APIs for their proprietary orchestration service and web portal. You'll work on secure, full‑stack systems in AWS with a focus on integration, automation, serverless architecture, and cloud security:

Design, build, and maintain the next generation of backend services and workflows in AWS (Step Functions, Lambda, Batch/ECS, RDS) to orchestrate complex clinical genomics pipelines.
Develop and evolve Python/Flask APIs and the React portal used by labs for data submissions, test configuration, and to monitor workflow status.
Implement and maintain integrations with third‑party genomic tools and vendor APIs, handling increasing complexity of data flows, edge cases, and long‑running jobs.
Improve and operate the platform infrastructure and software delivery pipeline (CI/CD, IaC, Observability, Security) in a highly regulated environment.

What You Bring To The Role

You bring senior, end‑to‑end engineering capability: strong AWS serverless and platform skills, solid backend development in Python/Flask, meaningful React/front‑end experience, good data and SQL instincts, and the ability to design, document, and ship robust system integrations and workflows in a regulated environment.

On top of that, you bring curiosity to learn genomics and HL7 FHIR, comfort collaborating closely with product and customers, openness to feedback, and a pragmatic mindset that balances building new features with security, reliability, and maintainability.
