Job summary

KBR in Australia is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Mission Integration team, based in Canberra or Queensland. You will design, develop and implement high-quality software for Defence capabilities, collaborate across engineering and project teams, and drive technical excellence in an agile setting.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree and at least 7 years in a similar role, with strong ASP.Net/C#/HTML/JavaScript skills, SQL Server expertise, and NV1 security clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in a similar role.
• ASP.Net, C#, HTML, JavaScript proficiency.
• Microsoft SQL Server and Transact-SQL including Stored Procedures.
• Object Oriented Programming (OOP).
• Unit Testing.
• Azure DevOps (ADO/TFS)
• Experience developing in Microsoft Visual Studio.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Experience developing for Defence networks.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent organisation/prioritisation and communication skills.
• Active NV1 Defence Security Clearance required.

Responsibilities

We have an exciting opportunity for a talented Senior Software Engineer to join our growing Mission Integration team. Based in either Canberra or Queensland, this exciting opportunity will see you contribute to the development of innovative software solutions that support some of Australia's most important Defence capabilities.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will work closely with engineers, project managers and technical specialists throughout the software development lifecycle, playing a key role in designing, developing and implementing high‑quality software solutions. Working within a collaborative Agile environment, you will help deliver cutting‑edge capability outcomes while driving continuous improvement and technical excellence across projects.

This role offers the opportunity to work on complex, mission‑critical systems that directly support Defence operations and future capability development.

Responsibilities

• Developing high‑quality software in accordance with relevant standards and processes.
• Contributing to all agile software development sprint events.
• Assisting with task decomposition and the estimation of work.
• Assisting with system testing as part of the development process, including performance and unit testing
• Assisting with system documentation.
• Representing KBR in a professional manner and adhering to KBR policies and practices as outlined in the Business Management System and Security documentation.
• Other tasks as directed by KBR management.

As the ideal candidate you will bring

• Holds a Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in a similar role.
• ASP.Net, C#, HTML, JavaScript.
• Microsoft SQL Server and Transact-SQL including Stored Procedures.
• Object Oriented Programming (OOP).
• Unit Testing.
• Azure DevOps (ADO/TFS)
• Experience developing in Microsoft Visual Studio.
• Experience developing using an agile methodology (Agile/Scrum).
• Experience working in a software development environment using the Microsoft software development & test product stack.
• Experience developing applications for Defence networks.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent organisation/prioritisation skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non‑technical colleagues.

All candidates will be required to hold and maintain an active NV1 Defence Security Clearance. Only candidates holding a NV1 Clearance or above should apply.
