Job summary

M2P Engineering in Brisbane, QLD, invites an experienced Senior SMP Construction Estimator to own tender pricing for structural, mechanical and piping works across mining and heavy industry sectors. You will leverage site execution knowledge to deliver accurate, competitive estimates.

Reporting to the Head of PMO, you will drive the tender process from documents through pricing and handover, working with engineering, procurement, construction and commercial teams to strengthen bids.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years' SMP estimating experience.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specs and scopes of work.
• Experience developing first-principles estimates using labour rates and detailed resource pricing.
• Strong commercial judgement and tender queries resolution.

Responsibilities

• Lead detailed SMP construction estimates, combining quantity take-offs with first-principles pricing for site labour, materials, construction plant and subcontractors.
• Assess methodologies, sequences, site conditions, access constraints and schedules to validate productivity and risks.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotes, negotiate pricing and resolve queries.
• Prepare clear, well-supported tender submissions capturing pricing, scope gaps and exclusions.
• Identify opportunities to improve tender competitiveness and maintain cost benchmarks.

Good projects start with a well-built estimate. As our Senior SMP Construction Estimator, you will take ownership of accurate, competitive and commercially sound tenders for structural, mechanical and piping construction works. You will draw on practical knowledge of site execution, installation methodologies and labour productivity to build estimates that reflect how the work will be delivered.

Reporting to the Head of PMO, you will lead the estimating process from the initial review of tender documents through to pricing, submission and project handover. You will work across the energy, mining, water, oil and gas sectors, collaborating closely with our engineering, procurement, construction, project management and commercial teams.

This role will suit an experienced estimator with strong technical capability and confident commercial judgement. You will challenge assumptions, identify risks and opportunities, and recommend cost efficiencies that strengthen our tenders. Along the way, you will be supported by a down-to-earth team that values your expertise and backs you to deliver.

What you will do

• Lead detailed SMP construction estimates, combining quantity take-offs with first-principles pricing for site labour, materials, construction plant, equipment and subcontractors.
• Assess construction methodologies, installation sequences, site conditions, access constraints and project schedules to validate productivity rates, resource requirements and delivery risks.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotes, negotiate pricing and resolve technical and commercial queries.
• Prepare clear, well-supported tender submissions that capture pricing, scope gaps, assumptions, exclusions and qualifications.
• Identify opportunities to improve tender competitiveness, support tender reviews and project handovers, and maintain current estimating data and cost benchmarks.

What we are looking for

You'll bring substantial SMP construction estimating experience, strong technical capability and the commercial judgement to develop, validate and present well-supported estimates. Your skills and experience will include:

• A minimum of 10 years' SMP estimating experience, with demonstrated ownership of tenders for site-based structural, mechanical and piping construction and installation works.
• Strong practical knowledge of SMP construction methodologies, installation sequencing and site labour productivity, supported by the ability to interpret drawings, specifications and scopes of work.
• Proven experience developing first-principles estimates using productivity rates, labour hours and detailed resource pricing.
• Sound commercial judgement, including the ability to assess supplier and subcontractor quotes, resolve tender queries and identify scope and pricing risks.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills, attention to detail and the communication and organisation skills to work across teams and meet tender deadlines.

Ideally, you will also have

• Estimating experience across energy, mining, water, oil and gas projects.
• Relevant engineering, mechanical trade or construction qualifications.
